I'm a 65 year old retired mailman that lives on the east side of San Francisco Bay. I'm also a retired US Navy Chief.
My 1998 Wrangler, that I'd owned from it's birth, was getting long in the tooth, so it was time for a new ride. I was wanting another new Wrangler for a short wheel base ride, but Jeep decided to switch to electronic steering, and they were having problems with it.

The vehicles I've had that were dependable were Toyota pickups, so it was off to the dealer to check them out. I'd been looking at 4X4's at first, but decided my needs would be met by a Tacoma TRD Sport 4X2 with the limited slip differential. I ended up with a silver one, with double cab and a 5' bed. I was looking at the access cab, but the grandkids will be getting older and bigger, and that would have been a bit tight. The salesman actually got up into both models with the seat slid back so I could decide. Since I'm a 65 year old retired mailman with knees that are shot, it has the automatic transmission. Out of all the vehicles I've owned this is the second one that had an auto tranny.
I don't carry a smart phone so I don't have any pictures yet, but will get some soon. I should really dig out any pics of my other Toyotas and take them to a shop that converts them to digital so I can post them.
My first Toyota truck was a 1981 4X4 with a 4 cylinder and 5 speed manual. I put the popular 11X15 Armstrong Tru-Tracs on it and went hunting and fishing in the Sierras.
The next one was a 1987 4 cylinder 4X4 with 5 speed manual. That one also went into the Sierras and the mountains east of Sacramento, CA.
The next one was a 1990 2WD 4 cylinder with 4 speed manual. That one almost got stuck a few times in the mountains. This one surprised me. With a tranny without overdrive, it gave me 33 mpg driving back and forth from the Bay Area to San Diego for Navy schools.
Did I mention that this Tacoma is the first vehicle I've had in 22 years with air conditioning? I may never drive with the windows down again !!
This looks like a great site, I'm already going through the threads on mounting a bicycle in the bed. It looks like I'll need a bed rail across the front of the bed and a bed extender. My normal ride has a 52" wheelbase, and the longest one has a 70" wheelbase.
