I had the old version of this remote starter on my old POS Hyundai, It was the best thing about that car. It was weird though bc Hyundai sucks if you locked the doors with the switch inside the car you couldn't unlock with the remote. It was annoying as fuck. But I was told it's bc it was on a hyundai by the people at hyundai their ECUs suck.

Anyway this remote starter is great it was nice in college to be able to start my car from the other side of the campus on a snowy day and walk into a warm car. It seriously had almost a mile range.

My 2012 Subaru had this as well. OEM. Annoying to say the least.

My wife got the OEM Toyota remote start on her Rav4. It was installed at the shipping port & has a very limited range. Nice feature but I would just go aftermarket if I were you

It’s the the remote start that is programmed like that, it’s a manufacturer thing. Toyota and Lexus are like that while others aren’t. However there are ways around it. HKEY has key override so it does not shut off if you open the door, you can pop your key in and it takes over and off to the races you go!

I’m working on a manual solution right now. It will be the same PLUG ‘n’ PLAY module HKEY guys use but with a couple extra wires to cut into for clutch cancel via relay. I got some resource materials and I’m going to be testing it for the next two weeks. Once it’s solid, I’ll release it to all. Subscribe to the thread below and PM me if interested. I’m all out of stock on the regular PTS, HKEY and Smart module but have more on the way. It’s not too complicated but you need to be semi comfortable and be able to define the word “crimping” to me with using google. As well as a few other words I’ll test you on when we speak haha! No but in all seriousness, M/T guys shouldn’t be left out, I’ve had M/T cars all my life and it’s never been an issue having a remote start. My first Tacoma is automatic, but I feel everyone’s pain. Just know times have changed and although back then we cut and spliced because there was no plug n play, today’s times are stricter with rules set from NHTSA, manufacturers trying to cover their butts from liability and risk and so on. So yes, there is a sequence that MUST be followed to be remote start ready on an M/T when parking the vehicle and exiting and if your interested, PM me and I can explain the details on how this all works, even if you’re not planning on buying soon, I don’t mind sharing the knowledge and educating some on how it works, and why it works the way it does, as well as what it takes to make it work. Subscribe here for updates on release as well as occasional sales announcements as well as regular LOW price access on remote starts and smart module/app based controls for Automatic transmissions PTS, HKEY, and smart module add on as well. My goal is to solve this pain point for our M/T guys on the easiest way possible before this winter is in full throttle for everyone.!

I went last Friday and i had the Viper 7816V installed,1.5 ( so one thousand five hundred feet)
It has confirmation on when it is starts (green light),etc
With taxes it was 510 dollars canadian,so i am quiet happy with it.
I love Toyota products, but no way i was gona pay 869.00 plus taxes for a remote starter from them.
    Next,looking for winter tires,and rims,,,lol
    Thanks again

That’s the right way as a licensed installer if you want to set yourself free of risk, some vehicles already have this sensor nowadays butnolder vehicles didn’t and it had to be added. Amateur installers or DIYs that forgo this are asking for a hop, skip and chirp using a remote start with the vehicle left in gear. Great way to give grandma a heart attack at the target parking lot too if I may add!
