The issue I'm having is that the clutch pedal wont return completely, sometimes it returns half way, sometimes just a couple inches..

After reading a few forms I decided to replace the slave cylinder. The instal was successful and the line was blead however the issue was not fixed. I was thinking of replacing the master cylinder next, any comments or suggestions??

Is your master original or replaced in the recent past? Typically you replace both master and slave at the same time. If your master is still good I'd take a look under the dash and check the pedal assembly itself. Either the return spring is worn out or the piston arm going to the master is not greased and causing friction. I'd just replace the master since it's not too expensive on Amazon.

It’s the return spring. On the six cylinder models it’s a big coil spring and the plastic bushings on it wear out. It then wears a deeper grove into the tab it sits in on the clutch pedal. To fix it stock you will need to replace the spring, bushings, and the clutch pedal. The easier fix is to just remove the spring, and replace it with a linear spring. You can use a break pedal return spring, or the clutch pedal spring from a four banger, or even a spring from the hardware store. There is a tab to hook a linear spring to up under the dash. I had the same problem and wasted money on master and slave cylinders before figuring out it was the spring. An eight dollar spring and five minutes time and the problem was solved. As a bonus my cruise control started working again.

I adjusted the master cylinder push arm length to the pedal and it seems to be working great now. I have a linear spring on order to replace anyways, please advise on how to remove the spring.

    Thanks

Just put a big screw driver between one end of it and the bracket and pry. It will pop right out.

Modified my clutch spring if that counts
Any recommendations on spring size and strength when replacing the stock coil spring with a linear one?
Advice on doing the "repair"? I too replaced the slave cylinder and then the master only to make the problem a bit worse

I ended up using a linear spring for the clutch for the 4 cylinder models and it didn't seem to be enough... I would recommend a stronger spring than what I used, I ended up trading my truck in a few months after that so I never ended up finding something better. My clutch was pretty much done though so that may have caused some resistance. Anyway, the link is the one I used, I would recommend going a bit bigger.
