Year and model of your truck will help narrow it down.

Ok... maybe I am totally thinking of the wrong thing here but the hill-start assist is the only thing that will hold your truck for you. Other than the e brake of course.

I assume you have an OR or pro since the other models don’t have the same capability. I test it all the time at the gated entry to my neighborhood. The chime beeps and the brakes pulse and slow the rate of reward movement but won’t stop the truck from rolling completely.

If the engine is shutting off, that’s obviously an issue and should be addressed by the service department.

I already have it narrowed down to ‘my truck’. I am trying to widen the scope of this to see how big it is.

I just got the truck back from toyota of greenville. I went on a ride with the service manager. The truck stalled at the first click of the hill assist brakes. He said “oh yeah, it’s gonna do that”.
I am going to call Toyota next.
    What should I do?

How soon after you let off the brake does it stall?
Hill assist is only active for up to 5 seconds once initiated.

The point is no one else knows what 'your truck' is.

Is it a manual or automatic?

What trim level, SR? SR5? TRD sport? TRD off road? Limited? TRD Pro?

If you have to know what my truck is it is a 17 offroad.
It still doesn’t change my question at all.
I know some of the second gens did this. I would just like to know how many of the third gens are doing this, if any.

I dont have that option on my 2017 sport. I have climbed a 45 degree slale hill in low reverse with no issue.

My issue was getting backdown the shale hill in the dark.

2017 is stock and it did better than my CJ would have.

I guess i missed the question in the thread on stalling.

Shit the only thing stalling was my heart and the fear of rolling over

My 2017 OR will cut off if it rolls backwards. My 2017 Sport did also.
I was climbing a hill in 4lo and timid being new, rolled backwards off the rock instead of staying even with the skinny. I traded my Sport for the OR because I noticed I couldn’t drive an automatic, but need one because of my knees.
Learning to drive it, and rolling backwards hasn’t been an issue lately, but about time to advance my skill level.
I actually have it on video posted in the Uwharrie Thread because I was worried!

Are we talking about “hill assets” on a manual transmission. 2018 TRD Sport is what I have, it will hold you on steeper incline. I have always had manuals, I forgot it had it until it grabbed coming out of a store with a steep driveway.

I think you might have the wrong impression on how it's supposed to work...it's not hill-hold, it's hill-assist.
It's purpose is to slow backward descent, not stop it. The slip indicator light comes on when it is functioning.
The stalling part of it could be on you for operator error.

My 17 MT Pro has no such hill-assist feature. Just drop the mug in 4-Lo and get on up. Not sure why an AT would ever stall though.

This thread is worse than reading 5th grade essays, and I’m a teacher!!:annoyed:

Anyways, I hate the feature and want to turn it off while offroading. Who the you know what puts it in reverse to back up on a really steep hill to get another go at a short tough spot?!?!

    Ok, rant over :)

I'd love to answer your question, but I only made it to the 4th grade.

I don’t think you are understanding what hill assist is.
