I'm still trying to wrap my head around the reason why the harness kit that shipped with my lights has a 20 amp fuse for (2) 20 watt LED lamps. I'm thinking about stepping down to a 5 AMP or 10 AMP fuse. Is there some other reason why the fuse rating is so high?

They probably ship that fuse with ALL of their lighting (pods all the way to 50” bars)

Ultimately, a 20amp will be fine. It’s just there to keep the wire from catching fire if it shorts out somewhere. It’s not actually protecting the lights. Unless the wiring is super thing gauge (like, 18awg or thinner) then 20 will be ok.

But, if you have a 5amp laying around, then why not. I wouldn’t buy one just for this though

The fuse should be rated lower than the current the thinnest wire on the connection will support. Fuse should blow before wiring gets overloaded during a fault condition. In my opinion you’re better off lowering the value of the fuse instead of leaving it at 20A since I suspect the wiring at the LED lights won’t support 20A.
