Drove a brand new tacoma as a rental for my frame install on my 2nd gen. Gotta say...quite the delay on the acceleration and the transmission shifts weird. How do you all feel?

It’s a new engine and trans in these trucks, not just to the Tacoma but to Toyota. That’s why a lot of us are turning to OVTune to overhaul the factory tune and actually give the truck some balls

Right......must have been a lemon. Funniest thing happened to me too. I went and test drove a second gen the other day and it had rust on the frame and saggy leaf springs. Has anyone ever heard of that before?

They havent changed the frames for the 3rd gen either. Better crc spray, just got mine. Wish toyota would build a better frame not made in mexico. Sprayed mine after install today. Two ply still ugh.

Frames are different. Different bracing and suppose to be composed of a better anti corrosion material. Doesn’t appear so to me but time will tell. They did spray some fluid film stuff up by the engine cradle where the frame kinda boxes in

Lots of hate on the 3rd gen shifting OP. Especially by folks that are used to the 2nd gen set up. You are not alone in your opinion.

All generations of Tacomas have a whine, usually coming from the owner in the cab. I’m a member on some other forums. Never seen so many whiney bitches here in my life, especially from a truck forum.

I legit have 0 issues with this in my truck. Now it took a few TSB's to get there, but after 30k miles i'm happy.

I mean it downshifts when I give it gas, and it goes when I give it gas. Dunno.

I just spent a week in a rental car too so it's not even that I have gotten used to it. The last TSB helped with the dead pedal feel tremendously.

I just traded my 2006 TRD OR MT for a 2018 TRD OR AT three weeks ago. At first it definitely felt a little different, but I’m not sure how much of that was making the switch to an automatic or the new transmission itself. But for what it’s worth, I love my new truck and really enjoy driving it. I have zero issues with it and I’m really liking the new interior and exterior looks as well. I’m very happy with making the jump to a 3rd Gen.
