That looks great! Fits perfectly. Love the rear wall/extension. Just what I want. It appears that it could take some serious wind. In case you get inundated with bugs some mosquito netting side walls would be a nice option. Is that an ARB awning?

It’s an ARB 1.25 meter (47 inch) awning. I was given it by a friend when he sold his truck, but I’ve seen it take 50mph winds with the wind break. ARB doesn’t have the screen wall option for the short awning, it would have to be a custom setup.

I think you'll be okay. They didn't end up sloping the front wall by the cab did they? If not, the single cable difference is that the rear wall is vertical vs sloped. So long as the front of the GFC isn't sloped to I bet i'll fit just fine.

There is some slight slope to it - it fits the back of my access cab like a glove. I am on KB Voodoo rails though - so if I put the GFC on stock plastic rails to get some height and perhaps let the ass end set a bit (like 1/2") past the tailgate I might be able to get away with it. Pretty iffy though.

I REALLY wish it would be a direct swap. Now that I have the GFC with super easy but secure bed access I really don't need the extra cab space and would much prefer the short WB. Plus it would look bad ass.

Just gotta find someone in the bay area with a regular cab and a forklift who feels like experimenting over some beers sometime.

can't imagine that would be hard to find someone to do that haha @Dalandser is in Cali though i don't remember where..

Id keep the cab space though. More dry storage isn't going to hurt you. It'll allow you to keep the bed more flexible and open.

From what I've read, it seems like it would be a tall order to get the GFC to be completely moisture proof (different from rain proof) because it is a truck bed after all. Keep your cab space, its moisture free. The truck bed has drainage holes and will always allow some level of moisture to get in. Unless you seal those holes and insulate your truck bed (a.k.a. buy an SUV).

I've had shells for a while, and I get what you're saying about them not being 100% water proof - but I don't think I would miss the access cab space too badly given how I personally use it. All I keep back there right now is my fridge which could go into the bed.

Part of the appeal is a smaller package since my truck is my daily driver. Not in a huge rush though - just something I was thinking about. I am loving how my truck is set-up at this point, especially with the day to day and camping convenience of the GFC.

A go fast camper and a taco of any flavor is a wonderful combo that I am not looking to change.

I had planned to build something with a solid mount, maybe even a slide. I even bought a mount. While procrastinating, I just rolled the bikes in and bungeed them up. Been doing that for two years now. In the Leer it was less ideal because you needed more space to lean the bike over to get it in. With the extra height and big opening on the Go Fast, they go straight in and I can put my cross bike in without having to lower the seat. This is an old pic, but same idea w/ the GFC. I only use one bungee now, basically wrapped around the head tube. The bungee is permanently attached to the rear mount. Just unhook and re-hook. I realize it looks kinda janky, but it works great.

Yes, but you’d have to make your own mounts or adapters between the awning and GFC’s mounts. The mounting bolt spacing is different.

When Graeme was here he showed me his “dog vetilation” plan. Basically pop the side open, close the REAR latch close the side panel as normal (latching the front) with slight deflection this leaves some vetilation most of the way back without rain coming in.

This is UN-proven by me, and I don’t wanna speak for GFC, @gmacmt is this still your recommended method??? Also it could scratch your tube with no protection so you might want to add a piece of tape or whatever. Hopefully that’s what you’re looking for. I don’t know if any other venting secrets besides waiting for nicer weather or tucking it in the garage...

So what is the general feeling towards KB Voodoo Bed Rail Caps on a 2nd Gen? Yes or No?

And if I do go down the KB Voodoo route, will the GFC clear my shark fin?

@wileydavis Any preference from the GFC side on a 2nd Gen?

The GFC will fit just fine with the KB Voodoo rails but you will have to chop your shark fin for it to clear.
The flat rails do make fitting up the bottom gaskets easier though.

hey @wileydavis what do you think about the idea of a big elastic band to help the tent close, like the Alu-Cab tent? Would be kind of cool.

    Thanks

It doesn't work. When it's closed the tall part of the sides overlap one another at the fold line, so the elastic band only helps when you first start closing the tent but doesn't do much at the critical part when the tent is almost closed.

    Thanks for the info @wileydavis

I'm going to look into a low profile XM antenna swap and go with the KB Voodoo rails.

Anyone notice any loss in XM reception with the GFC installed and covering the antenna?

No loss in reception. Somehow driving under a tree has more effect than the GFC being a 1/2” above the antenna.
