Whoohoo! I finally got a shipping notice on my new crossmember. Hopefully I'll have it in a week or so. Already have my new throw-out bearing and I have the parts for my very own gear oil pressure filler, so that means I need to get rolling on building it and getting a rear pinion seal so I can get that taken care so I'll be ready to travel to get the throw-out bearing replaced and the new cross member (temporarily) installated.

Edit: Holy moly, batman. Just got the tracking info and it says it's left Jacksonville and will be on my doorstep tomo...errr...today sometime, I guess.

Nothing like 70lbs of 3/8" plate steel to let your Taco know you care...and let your back know you don't, lol.

Geez, I must have made an impression when I replied to their response to my inquiry as to why I hadn't got a shipping notice yet.

Just an interesting observation...I know the Atrac works in the T4R. The old starter finally gave up the ghost in the OGT while she was conveniently parked in the dirt, nosed in toward the house, about the worst possible spot the starter could die at home, so I was going to use Natty to pull her back with Mom steering and riding the brakes, then we'd swap places and pull start the OGT with Natty. Well, Mom was a little too literal when I explained I needed her to ride the brakes, so when I went to tug with Natty, I was only in 2WD and one of the rear tires started to spin in the dirt. Well, the ABS motor came on and pulsed the brakes on that side and we got to rolling. That's the first time I've ever been sure the Atrac was doing anything. It was kinda cool.

Anyway, we got the OGT started and parked on the concrete so I just need to drop the skid plate which I needed to do anyway for the tranny drop (I think) and pop the good starter in it (that I've been sitting on for like a year now waiting for the old one to finally crap out). Figures it'd be in an inconvenient spot in front of an audience of neighbors wanting to watch was was going on. One kind soul even offered to help and I was forced by Mom to pretty much say I didn't trust someone I wasn't that familiar with to be behind the wheel of one of our RUNNING automobiles. I felt bad about that because he was clearly a nice guy, I just didn't know him that well.

Sigh...Sometimes I hate it that my truck loves me so much. :bananadead: Dropped the skid this morning to replace the starter and discovered the brand new axle seal I just put in over the summer is leaking again. I knew something felt hinky when I put it in. Seemed a little loose... :anonymous: So now I get to replace the rear pinion and a front axle seal and change the gear lube in both (and they take two different types). Effin' yay. :frusty: But, hey, at least I got my new pressure gear lube dispenser built, so that should make things a little easier and, hopefully, less messy. Fortunately, the replacement starter worked (big THANK YOU! to @Key-Rei :hattip:), but I think it's going to take a nice leisurely trip to @allenfab 's before the battery fully recovers if it does, but I think it's still in the free replacement period for a Duralast Gold, so if it doesn't perk up, I'll exchange it. Alternator still seems to be working fine. It was kicking out 14.2 volts when I got the truck started, so I think I'm going to take my chances with it, just maybe bring my spare one to the Annual meet for Justin Case.

I'd rather not be a eunuch. :angrygirl: Besides, I have enough issues with a basic manual everything truck, much less all the electronic bullshit that could go haywire on the T4R. :anonymous: She's my pretty, pretty pavement princess. ;)

Still, I am hoping to down/upgrade the OGT after the first of the year: no more front locker, 4.88 gears, front True Trac, all that good stuff so maybe that'll take some stress off of things and she'll get less excited when we go out to have fun. Interesting to note though (knocking on wood) I have yet to pop one of those NAPA CVs. The first one has survived 3 trips to Citrus and one trip to Richloam. The other has survived one trip to Citrus and one trip to Richloam. granted, I haven't really put them to the test at some place like Hardrock, but I'm tentatively pleased with how well they are holding up and they should only do better once I get that True Trac in there.
