I drove a 2017 TRD OR DCSB after it was involved in a front end collision, no airbag deployment. I think the frame was bent, considering how the bed didn't quite line up with the cab on the DS.

I only drove it about 10-15 feet but it felt great.

My opinion on these trucks, based on what I hear, is they are awful.

I forget, do these 3rd gens have a CVT automatic?

I've never driven a CVT that I was impressed with.

I don’t think one non-commercial truck model in the entire world has a CVT.
please correct me if I am wrong.

Right. Instead stock tune. Maybe I should say the first OEM tune?

Interesting observation. I experienced the same thing in my 2019. I drive 55 mile each way to work and home, I put it on cruise control at 70ish and the truck is constantly hunting for a gear. Down shifting and sometimes reving up to 3500 or just sitting at 3000 RPM’s as I drive. I have to step on the gas pedal briefly and it’ll drop down to 2100 rpms. Im not even driving fast. I drive on a flat hwy, only one small hilly section of 505 before I get onto I5 north.

Someone had posted a dyno result in one of the Threads, the Torque Curve was definitely weird, was full of peaks and valleys, sure the tunes try to smooth that out a little.

There's definitely deep valleys in two mid-range RPM ranges, before peak torque. OV tune fixed that up pretty good it looks like, still a dip but not as severe.

From what I saw when this 3.5l Taco debuted the torque curve was OK at low RPM - say about 80% of peak torque at 2k RPM - that's a good thing. The trouble always was the throttle response off the line, and that's all about the throttle-by-wire, it was engineered to be deliberately slow to react to right foot input. I guess that bumped the EPA mpg up some during testing.

As I said, 5th Gen 4Runner owners noticed the same exact thing. Complaints about the same 4.0l and same transmission from the 4th Gen, but felt slow and unresponsive off the line. Throttle-by-wire had a retarded response to the same input from the right foot.

Hi Smitty! Good to see you're still around as miserable as ever :)

I somehow don't take offense when someone tries to insult me with the grammatical structure of a 5th grader, or people from Alabama... I just pity both :D

I just find it ironic that a guy shit posting about a third gen and it's lack of reliability is posting that while his truck gets a new frame...
