    From this past weekend's event:

It started with a private tasting put on by the brand ambassadors to Westland and Bruichladdich. Got to try 3 expressions from each, then a few of us had some of the Octomore 8.1. Amazing stuff - provided you like your scotch *very* peated. All I got was this super blurry pic:

I went home with a bottle of the Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Heavily Peated 10 year. Newer expression from them and it's quite tasty.

Afterwards, we hung out and tried some different stuff. There were 5 recipes of Four Roses Single Barrel Barrel Proof store picks to choose from:

I had the OBSK 12 year 10 month. I love spicy bourbons, but this was kind of disappointing, if I'm honest. Just a bunch of wood and spice. Didn't try any of the other recipes. I have an OBSV on the shelf, just haven't gotten to it, yet.

Had a pour of EH Taylor Seasoned Wood as well:

I thought that was fantastic. There were a few others from the post-event tasting, too. Glenfiddich 21 Winter Storm, Mayor Pingree 12 year (great!), Old Weller Antique barrel select.

Great evening with some great people and some great whiskey!

Nice. I know Port Charlotte has been out for a handful of years at least - I still have a half bottle from when I was just getting into scotch. Probably close to ten years ago now.

I’ve yet to try any Taylor. I’ll get around to it I’m sure! Looks like a good night.

The Port Charlotte stuff has certainly been around a bit. It is the age stated 10 year Heavily Peated that is new. This is the outgoing stuff (I think I understood the guy correctly):

This is the stuff that was recently released:

I've only tried two EH Taylors. I had the Small Batch and didn't think much of it. The other is that Seasoned Wood above. Delicious, but I doubt I'll ever be able to get my hands on a bottle for myself.

Went to a distillers convention last night, walk and around and try a bunch of booze was the gist. I'm more of a Scotch guy but I got to try alot of Bourbons and some Ryes. Had EH Taylor small batch and eagle rare one after another-preferred Taylor for sure. Tried Lagavulin for the first time as well, holy smokes Batman-literally-It was like drinking liquid smoke, I loved it! Most impressive spirit I tried was Grand Mayan Ultra Aged tequila, this shit was the bomb. Super smooth and great flavors. I guess you get what you pay for at $100/bottle.

I liked the Boureye, figured I’d try the Double Rye! (Which happens to be half the price). It’s as the name implies, good rye whiskey

    It’s my favorite.

My daily drink is the regular ass basic EVAN WILLIAMS.

I can get a 750ml bottle for 8.50. Best bang for your buck.

The prairie tastes like a traditional American whiskey I guess would be the best way to describe it. The double rye has the spicy burn most ryes have but is really smooth. I’m not very good at describing them I now realize lol

Anyone tried Angels Envy Rye? They only show up around here a few times a year in limited amounts. I don't have a taste for Angels Envy straight bourbon - I got 2 bottles for my birthday months ago and they sit, unopened, next to my half empty bottle - but the rye is awesome. It might be one of my favorite bottles I have. I would trade the 2 bottles of bourbon for 1 of the rye in a heartbeat.

Yeah I agree, I find the bourbon a bit underwhelming but the rye is quite nice. A bit sweeter and less spicy than many rye’s almost has a creme brûlée taste to it. Maybe from the rum cask? Whatever it is I like it!

Never had the rye but I enjoy the regular one. I'll be up in NorCal for turkey weekend if you want to make some cash off those bottles :spending:  :drunk:
