    You’re right. How about “voluntary TSB” so you don’t have to argue with the dealerships to do the update.

    I ran 1.04 87 for awhile. IMO the TSB is so much better.

    Yep. But he said in March 18 Toyota got with him. Then those TSBs came out.

    They really should make it a recall and notify owners. Only a small amount of us owners are on TW.

    From a M/T perspective, the Toyota calibration update (04B13, 04A71) is was quite good and much better than the factory garbage.

    I give them some credit for that, at least they tried.

    But why in the HELL did it take so long? Almost three years into the 3G production run!

    I was 60 days short of two years on the stock tune before my first OVtune flash... Thanks Mat, I probably would not have the Taco today if not for your work :hattip:

    List of Changes, recent changes to 1.05


    Valve Timing - Extended
    Atkinson mode has been modified to extend to further load points, with intake advance ramping in low load and low RPM for better immediate response below 1500 RPM.
    Modified atkinson mode extends up to 3200 RPM, for a specific reason (outlined under shift changes).

    Ignition Timing -
    Ignition has been modified (base table) smoothed and calibrated for 93 octane with a peak advance target of 33* WOT (higher RPM)
    Through multiple rounds of thorough and rigorous testing we have encountered ZERO pining, studder, or misfiring with our modified ignition.

    Engine Air Load -
    Multiple changes to Air charge control and 4D throttle mapping.
    This allows us to to have immediate and responsive off the line performance, more tip-in response, and zero throttle torque reductions (full throttle capability @ WOT)

    Tacoma AT - Shifting / Shift load / Torque Shift

    - All gears have been completely redefined for better response, shifting, and cruise / highway / power demand.
    Gears 1-4 have been set to primary gears for non highway driving
    Gears 5-6 have been setup for highway driving.

    The engine has been specifically mapped to make better utilization of RPM with gear 4 non highway driving.

    Valve timing and ignition have been modified so that you have a wide range of RPM for efficiency in 4th gear.
    Here is a log snip taken in 4th gear drive @ roughly 2200 RPM with ignition advance at 43* (vs stock 30*)
    By modifying valve timing so that we can be in peak atkinson cylinder fill reduction with 40+ * advance we were seeing a consistent 25+ MPG in 4th @ 50mph. Tested over several miles


    5th and 6th gear have been modified to be more highway exclusive (with exception of 5th gear that can be used at non highway speed)
    Changes to the transmission torque mapping has improved shift speed and shift smoothness, while making slight changes to reduce locking of the torque converter over previous versions of 1.05 which can create a harsh shifting experience.






    Overall- The changes have made the truck even more responsive than 1.04R while also making changes to extract as much MPG as possible. There is a set load point that switches to power demand where you will get full throttle for maximum possible power.

    Custom Tuning / Additional features not included with Base 1.05-

    Shift locking - will be setup by custom tune only
    Shift Schedule - Shifting changes can be requested via custom tuning
    Insane Mode - Response changes that are NOT suitable for daily driving and NOT suitable for anything other than exclusive OFF ROADING.
    Throttle adjustments - Any changes necessary to make the response more comfortable to the user.

    Is this 25MPG number in 4th @ 50mph a result of the 87, 91, or 93 tune? Are there mileage variations between any of them when driven the same way?

    @OVTune what kind of delay should we expect for 04B03? Would I be better off flashing the tsb or will it be a minimal delay?

    At any rate, 1.05 looks great!
