Anybody else out there that spends all year dreaming about fall days with your bird dogs? I primarily hunt quail, chukar, and pheasants in California but can be easily talked into a trip anywhere with wild birds. Last year the dogs and I made a trip to MN for ruffed grouse and woodcock and KS for bobwhite quail. I've also hunted in SD and MT in years past. Here are my mutts, a 10 year old springer and a 1.5 year old setter.

Grouse and ptarmigan with a .22 in the fall for me. Makes unproductive big game hunts more fun. Love the taste of ruffed grouse, spruce and ptarmigan not so much.

AK is on my bucket list! Good sharptail hunting too up around the Delta Junction area I've heard.

Yep, shot a few of those around Delta. It's like fish in a barrel some days.

    Mainly doves here in VA!

Would love to get out to the Midwest and do some quail, pheasant, etc.

It's worth the trip imo. The South Dakota pheasant experience is amazing, Nebraska or KS is good for a quail/ pheasant mix.

New to bird hunting, here’s my 4 month old GSP getting a check up. 3 more weeks before fully vaccinated and probably another year to go before bird hunting.

In the meantime, wild pigs and deer

Also, any recommendations for trainers up in NorCal?

He should good to go later in the season. I don't know of any trainers, I'd recommend finding a NAVDHA group and training with them. I just train basic obedience and take my dogs hunting, the birds teach them the rrst.

Mostly Chukar hunt cause I dont have the common sense not to Haha. Upland and waterfowl for me. New dog this year! Got him last December so we've been working all year and marking days off of the calendar, just a couple more weeks here in Oregon! Also figured with a new dog I also could "use" a new shotgun Haha.

Sorry I've been out of the loop guys, great season so far and an ailing old dog has kept me pretty busy. We've hunted mountain quail, blue grouse, and ruffed grouse at home in California, Sage grouse in Oregon, and sharp, Huns, and roosters in North Dakota so far this year.

    Some of the highlights.

Great season so far here in Maine. Ruffed Grouse are plentiful. Few woodcock too, but I don't target them.

The moment before our first hunt of the season...he was trembling.

    Beautiful dogs and beautiful birds!

Got out opening day for doves, and we all limited out. Haven't been out since as I switched over to deer shortly after. Hoping to get out into the public lands for some quail and pheasant in November!
