    Howdy all,

Not completely Tacoma specific, but this forum is much more active than the Mercedes forum and thought I could get a good opinion here. In addition to my 2018 Tacoma DCLB Sport, I have a 2015 Mercedes ML550. I was changing a tire on the ML using the OEM scissor jack and as I was lowering the car back down, the jack suddenly gave way and went all the way down. The jack no longer works and I can freely raise and lower it simply by pulling on it without having to turn the screw mechanism. Normally I would've used my hydraulic floor jack, but I had lent it to my in-law (who has yet to return it from the summer!!).

Anyways, I need to replace the portable jack (I drive on the highway all the time, so need one for emergencies) and discovered that the OEM Mercedes scissorjack was over $300 bucks which I thought was crazy since Canadian Tire has ones available for less than $50bucks. Then I thought about possibly just replacing it with a bottle jack, but not sure if those are considered safer or not. The nice thing about the OEM Mercedes jack is that it fits exactly into the hole where the jackpoint is and is quite stable. Thoughts? TIA!

Nothing wrong, or inherently unsafe with a bottle jack replacement.
Probably the most common OEM car/ truck jack on the market..

Go to Autozone and buy a bottle jack.

    Problem solved.
