    Hi,

I occasionally hear a strange noise being the steering wheel when driving between 60-75mph. To me it sounds like a small electronic cooling fan hitting a shroud, but the other day I thought it almost sounded like a speaker with some slight feedback or grounding issues.

A couple of weeks ago, I took the family to Coeur d'lane, Idaho, and as we were driving through Spokane, WA and Northern Idaho the noise was almost constant. I was actually glad that it was constant, thinking I could take it in and have it looked at. Now that I am back home in the Tri Cities, it almost never makes the sound, which makes me not want to take it in and have looked at, cause they won't be able to reproduce it.

    Anyone have anything like this?

2016 TRD Off Road Double Cab Long Bed Automatic, 34,500 Miles

    Thanks

I believe we have the same issue. No fix but wanting to see if it’s a match

I’ve been searching for this subject, but Only get the wind howling result.

    Here is what I have,

    1. Only at highway speeds
    2. Tested with audio off and on, still only at highway speeds
    3. It sounds like speaker feedback. I can’t really describe it. Like covering and opening the lid of the vacuum tube with your hand.
    4. I can’t pinpoint the sound but it sounds like the front left side of dash or door.
    5. Can’t find anything related to it except your post.

    Have you found any fixes?

I just got my Tacoma so I will be trying to figure it out.

Yes, I took it into the dealer, and they kept the truck for the day, and they decided it was the driver door seal. I was very sceptical, cause it didn’t sound like wind noise. And it always happened at the exact same speed. Long story short, they replaced the door seal with an updated part number, and it’s fixed! No more noise!

I am usually not a fan of dealers, but Toyota of Tri-Cities did a great job of diagnosing and fixing the issue. Let me know if you need any other details.

Awesome! Nice that you got it fixed.

Did you take it to the dealer that you bought it from? I bought mine from out of state.

How did you go about describing the problem to them?

I’ve been reading about dealers brushing you off if they can’t replicate the problem.

Any other details you may have would be great.

No, I bought the truck when I lived in Minnesota, and I just took it to my local dealer here in Washington.

I described the problem like I did in the original post, and they sent a mechanic out with me for a test drive. I eventually learned that the noise happened every time I drove exactly 68mph. This made it easy for me to replicate it with the mechanic.

The invoice states that the replaced the door seal with the following part number:

    67862-04070 Weathersrip, FR Doo

    Good Luck!
