This is something I never see talked about. Folks ask what should I have in my truck for offroading etc. The usual is tractions mats, better tires, and a bunch of really good stuff like a 6pack of barely pops while waiting for a tow. I may be the only one on the planet that does this any more given their reliability, but I always have a spare serpentine belt stored under the back seat of my truck. You carry a spare usually and can fix a flat, can winch yourself out of a hole, air up spare ties, but if your serpentine belts breaks you are hosed. It runs the water pump, alternator, power steering and a/c. While breakage or flipping it off a pulley is a rare occurrence, it has happened to me previously. You are simply dead in the water when it goes. Might drive a mile or so under ideal conditions with no PS or battery charging until you overheat since the water pump is dead.

Just food for thought for those of you who really like to get into the back country

Yep, a spare belt is one of the first things I bought for my truck, plus someone on here was kind enough to post up the diagram of how it goes one, I printed that out and keep that in the truck too.

    Got that picture somewhere?

And yep, I have a spare belt, wheel bearing, 6 lugs and nuts, and some fuses tucked under the seat. Really the only things that if they go bad, they can really leave you up a creek that are readily transportable.

Yep the above mentioned is the correct part for the V6, the 4 banger uses a different belt

All my vehicles I change the belt and keep the old one under a seat.

Had a (very used) 1st gen for only a short period and had the new belt at home to install but had not gotten to it yet. Threw the belt about 10 miles from home.

Didnt feel like towing, or waiting for spouse who was at work. In florida but fall, so not ridiculously hot.

Had vehicle water temp and OBD and Torque app water temp up and running. I found that going about 30 mph seemed to be enough ram air to keep the water pump turning a bit and give some airflow thru radiator. Less than that seemed to give negligible waterpump speed.

Temps started to get concerning after about 5 miles, stopped at a park and used a 5 gal bucket i had and a hose spigot to cool engine for about 20 mins. After cooling made the last 5 miles back to the house.

Put on the new belt and got a spare like I should have from the start. Procrastinator...

No engine damage that I am aware of, and didnt boil enough coolant to talk about...
