I installed some new door speakers today and when I was putting it all back together I pulled a dumbass move. I hooked the little balls of the cable to the door and lock, but duh, I forgot to hook the little plastic spacer piece up. So I put all 4 doors back together this way and then went for a test drive. Get to where I’m going and low and behold my door won’t open from the inside. Son of a biscuit. So the driver door opens from the outside. Whew. As does the passenger. So I fix both of those.
THE PROBLEM is that the back door wont open even from the outside. I can’t pull the panel off with the door closed. I took apart the door as far as I can with it shut and I can’t quite get to the cables. There’s too much slack to unlock or open the door.
Any suggestions on where I go from here?
I even tried to unbolt the door, but the lock still wouldn’t release the door so didn’t work.
    HELP!?!?

I'm sure I've seen this problem before. I think there's a thread on it. You'll have to do some searching...

I found a couple possible solutions when doing a little more searching. Doing Halloween things now, so I’ll try a couple tomorrow and let you know if I break something or get the door open.

Sorry to hear that man. I actually did a dumb move myself on the drivers side rear door. I switched the two balls around, the one for the door lock on the handle and the handle one on the door lock. That was a nightmare. No matter what I did, try to lock/unlock the door or pull on the outside or indoor handle with no luck. I basically had to just muscle the handle to the point it felt like I was going to break it off from the door panel. I pulled on it hard enough that I finally got the door open so I could remove the door panel. I will NEVER do that again and I ALWAYS test it out now before I close the door. That took me about an hour trying at first to do it without breaking anything and after awhile, I just said screw it and if I broke something, then lesson learned. Luckily, nothing broke and i finally got it open and fixed. Good luck. Hopefully if you break something, it’s only the handle. I saw someone here selling chrome inside handles on the for sale threads if needed.

Had time to mess with it today and taking out the screws as if you were going to take the panel off and then just pulling in the middle I was able to get it open enough to fix my mistake.
Tried the pulling the door handle really far deal, but that didn’t work.
Just above the handle and to the right in the image.

Thats good you got it open. Yeah, i removed all the screws i could and the power window plate. I dont remember the exact method i used since i was just happy i got it open. It was the last thing i did at 11pm after installing my sound dampening material so it was dark and I was already tired and frustrated it took so long. Luckily i only did it on one door. Lesson learned though.

Just for future reference when someone searches and finds this thread.

The entire assembly easily pops out, no need to unhook the cables.

When I installed my speakers, I just hung the doors with a bungy cord, from the top of the door frame, without having to disconnect the cables, easy.

When I screwed up my right rear door during a speaker install, this thread saved me a lot of time and trouble. Thanks!
