BTW...I think you are on the wrong path regarding lemmon law, but I don't think your root argument is without merit.

Your argument:. Toyota is obligated to correct the issue of the radio malfunction.

STEP 1: If you can replicate the issue, get the dealer to acknowledge the root issue.

STEP 2: The dealership attempts to fix said issue. Maybe flashing new SW, maybe replacing the radio HW.

STEP 3: If they can replicate, but not remediate then you escalate. It is your state's department of licensing and regulation that gives you leverage. Would a reasonable person believe a radio that reboots during operation to be functioning "as intended"?

Also, I can see why people are attacking you, naysaying etc, but that is really not helpful and just makes the thread harder to follow for someone that may need the info.

If I'm the outside counsel for Toyota that gets a complaint about the issue being a safety concern....I ask the same questions you need to ask....Cand you replicate the issue, can you remediate the issue?

Then I ask the more painful ones.....is our system of reporting these issues a liability? Well is the dealer doesn't know what to do, and doesn't properly document the multiple visits, complaints well that would worry me greatly .

Remember Toyota is not just on the hook for injury caused by the radio, but by anything a jury deems they improperly dealt with or had an obligation to remediate.

This sounds to me like an issue that has a greater than 50% chance of being software related. Of course the final determination may lead to an answer that traces it back to certain HW batch, or micro component failure etc. ,but as you said, they are not likely to execute a lemon buy back.

The fact that buy backs take so long to document, and are rightfully scrutinized etc means the real cause and remediation would be available far in advance of that happening.

I would imagine switching HU’s should be their next step to remedy this. It would make sense.

I did notice that he changed the wheels. Obviously that is why the Entune is acting up.

Thanks. OP, not me, is the one with the current radio issues. Mine is not great but I can live with it. BTW, I have always advised people that the dealer is your friend until they are not your friend. They didn’t make the car yet are stuck trying to fix it. Early on they are generally helpful but I’ve also seen corporate “sit” on them many times and have had dealers pull me aside and tell me their hands are tied. I’ve also had dealers just flat out be dishonest and nothing short of cronies for corporate. Those corporate field reps - I never trust them. That is nothing short of the fox guarding the hen house.

If you spend 40k+ for a off-road Tacoma that’s your first problem. Second if you don’t like the head unit spend $600-800 to install a quality aftermarket HU with Apple Car Play or Android Auto. Problem solved.

Are you sure the dropped calls aren't your phone or carriers problem? /telecom_engineer

EDIT: To expand on this, entune never carries the call. The audio sure, but the RF traffic for your call is between your phone and the tower. So unless entune is telling your phone to hang up, it isn't the reason you are getting dropped calls.

Yeah, I think I know what a glitch is. When entune restarts 2-3 times during a trip and you lose your navigation while in LA traffic and you have to pull over to re-enter your destination, I say that’s a problem.

check your states specific laws but any vehicle can be lemon Lawed (in most states) as long as this criteria is met:

    you are original owner
its within 18 months of vehicle delivery
the vehicle was in the workshop for a total of 30 days for repairs (does not have to be consecutive)
the dealership attempted 3 repairs (meaning parts were replaced) and the issue is still present.

I've seen vehicles get lemon law for having a misfire that wouldn't go away. its not all about safety.
