“True offroaders?” How about those of us who drive offroad for work? Definitely a AT, sick and tired of pushing a clutch off and on road. If you are into pro racing and stuff, thats different. As for the rest that use a truck on freeways to get to offroad job sites, I see both being used a lot. It really comes down to personal preferences though.

Pushing in the clutch and shifting is just reflexes these days.

Driving an AT, I get 'phantom clutch/shifter syndrome'

Manual transmissions are so much better because that is the preference of the driver or owner. All a matter of preference.

I've been driving manuals for about 30 years or abouts. With all the traffic jams, the shifting is getting old. In one way I still like the manual, but in other ways I'm ready to try an auto for a while

I have an old lowerd Chevy blazer that is an auto.
    The taco is a stick.
I find myself looking for the clutch once in a while. I laugh every time.

    :rofl:That won this thread

I learned in a manual... unfortunately manuals are almost extinct and I’m not fighting it anymore. Also driving a manual oddly triggers my sciatic nerve :(

It’s not necessarily that the trans is BETTER, it’s just that the drivers themselves are better people.

I drive an manual, and even when I'm driving my wife car which is an auto I still cant seem to eat/drink while driving. I think I am just bad at multitasking while driving. :notsure:

True dat. Especially when they pop the clutch and ‘launch’ the boat onto the concrete ramp!

    'Phantom Clutch/Shifter Syndrome'. Classic.

PCSS is quite the prevalent condition. It occurs EVERY TIME I initially get into an A/T after piloting only M/T's for prolonged periods... Also, for some odd reason, whenever this condition presents I am overcome with a deep appreciation for M/T.

Phantom Clutch Shifter Syndrom nearly cause me to wreck my mothers automatic BMW one time when using the "faux manual" mode (where you bump the shifter up/down to manually change gears). I slammed the brake pedal in the middle of an intersection intuitively going for a clutch pedal that wasn't there and luckily no one was behind me when it happened.

Yup... I wouldn't want to attempt that in a regular manual without a crawl box lol. Not that it would even be possible without.

Based on what’s said on here, I’m pretty sure a stock Tacoma with a M/T can do both of those no problem.

I just don't remember ever hearing someone say "boy that would sure be more fun to drive with an automatic". Maybe I just wasn't listening.

A modded Tacoma wouldn’t even make the access road.

Point is, even though extreme, MT suck for “rock crawling” situations.
