    Leveling kit from previous owner
    Hey everyone!

I'm looking for some help buying a lift kit for my 2012 SR5. I'm not looking for anything huge or crazy yet, but honestly I don't really know what I'm doing. I found a 3" lift kit from Rough Country that seems good and pretty reasonably priced, and was hoping someone could give me some info on it such as the quality of it, the best place to buy it from, better alternatives, or anything else they think they can tell me about them. I'll share the link to the ones I'm looking at from Pure Tacoma. I currently only have a leveling kit installed by a previous owner, but I'm just looking to get my foot in the door to bigger and better things.

    Anything helps!

    Thanks

Before the Sh*t starts to fly about how terrible spacer lifts are.. If you already had a leveling kit I imagine you are already running spacers so I don’t see how this is much of an upgrade, most people will tell you to stay away from this type of lift.. I have never used Rough Country personally but I have also never heard great things about their quality.. If you’re on a budget but want to do it right the first time Id opt for the very well know/ liked set of Bilstein 5100 shock/struts all around (plus a lift spring for the front if you want to spend a little more) . With some sort of add a leaf for the back (vs block). Or another highly recommended options often talked about on this forum is full OME setups, both can be found from places like Headstrongoffroad.com and or Wheelersoffroad.com.. For about 500-1000+ bucks depending on options. Mind you I am just regurgitating what I have read about 1000 other times on similar posts.. But this seems to be what most people will recommend on a budget..

Do some research on here, there is a ton of info and very similar posts with lots of information..

Yeah exactly what @Johnders said. I ran RC 4" kit for a month or so and hated the stiffness. Speed bumps made me bounce even when I rolled as slow as I could. I've removed them to back to stock. I highly recommend saving a few hundred more bucks, and getting 5100s. Here's a path you could take, starting as cheap as possible and adding on to it as you go...
    1. Bilstein 5100s in front using your stock coils (so garage will have to disassemble and reassemble) + rear blocks with 5100s shocks in rear (can't use stock shocks as they aren't long enough after lifted)
    2. Replace rear blocks with AAL (single leaf or triple leaf) or full new Dakar leaf pack (replaces rear leaf springs with bigger ones).
    3. Replace stock coils in front with OME coils (so garage will have to disassemble and reassemble again).
Actually, since you'd have to pay a garage to disassemble and reuse your stock coils, it might be cheaper overall to just get OME coils when you get 5100s, because if you get them at Headstrongoffroad.com, you can pay $90 extra and they will assemble them for you (and they will then cover the assembly under warranty). So you might save money there, as a garage will probably charge more than $90 when you consider labor costs for disassembling and reassembling twice.

All that said is why many people recommend exactly what @Johnders said and just save up enough to get 5100s front and back, OME coils, pay for assembly, and an AAL or leaf pack. Then just install all at once. There is a lot of info on spacer and other lifts in this forum just search around. Also this pinned thread has great info on quoted and actual costs of installing lifts: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ongoing-lift-install-price-thread.11590/

@Johnders @geekyadam Hey guys thank you both so much for all the information! Makes the decision much easier and I definitely think I'll be looking into the 5100s path that you suggested @geekyadam. I really should just look around here for some answers more, I just don't tend to spend much time on forums when it really is a smart place to start.

Look into the bilstein 5100s with OME 885 coils and an AAL in the rear with rear 5100s, and rides great

If at all possible spring lift the rear, block lifts are rougher.
