Late to the party: Dirty's RCI Front Skid Review

So I've got a trip planned to go out to Moab over Thanksgiving break and I decided I needed to cover my oilpan before hitting the trails. I'd heard a lot about the RCI skid from folks around here so I decided to give it a go without too much research due to its popularity.

First impressions:








Hot damn is this thing beefy! Its thick aluminum but still very light weight. I had no idea that installation removes a bunch of thin pressed steel and bolts directly to the frame with much larger screws. Its super low profile too. I can't wait to put this thing to use!

Where did you find that steel bumper insert that replaced the plastic behind the license plate??

 

There's a guy on here out it Washington called "Canyon Runner" that made quite a few for people. I'm not sure if he's still making them or not. It was pretty reasonably priced. I think it was like 500ish after powder-coating.

I like it because its steel, but still pretty light weight and very strong.

 

How much was the RCI skid plate OP?

 

Mine was 325, but the steel is a bit cheaper.

Thanks for posting up the pictures. I am very interested in the RCI aluminum skids as well. I bashed my stock splash guards pretty good. Aluminum seems like the way to go at 1/2 the weight of steel.

 

I very happy with all the RCI products I have added to my Tacoma included. Can say enough about the quality of all their products.

How often do you have to change the batteries on that skid plate?

 

Do you have the transmission or transfer skids as well?

 

Nope not yet but I plan on getting them around the holidays when they run internet sales.

 

There is a discount code for RCI stuff right now in the group buy forums, 15% iirc. Is that about what to expect for the holidays?

 

Approximately but I’ve never seen it more then 15% from RCI...just my 2cents

 

It was 15% when I got ms skids and 10 or 15% when I got the sliders. I like their stuff.
