On another thread I mentioned I want to trade in to get the exact same trade but with the 4x4 addition. How do I do this?
Meaning. I need to hurry up cause I’m at 12k right now. With good not excellent credit can I just walk in there and say I wanna trade this is straight over with same payments and just start the principle over with no down? That’s kinda what I’m hoping to do. If that’s realistic id like to do it this weekend. I need some financial attack plan here or will I need to go in with 3 or 4k

You won't be able to trade up for the same payments. The 4x4 alone is an additional cost. Plus Your truck has lost some value over those 12k. Is your truck bought out in cash? If so you will lose some by trading up my guess around $8k. If you still owe, consider the possibility of being upside down a bit on payments, you may be able to carry over upside down debts from your old loan on the loan of a brand new 4x4.

Edit: Why do you need a 4x4? I live in SoCal as well and the 4x2 is more than plenty.

You can walk in there and say anything you want. The chances of just walking back out with the same payments on a newer, more expensive truck are not high. Maybe if you trade in, roll over your remaining loan principle into the new loan and extend the payment terms out to 6-7 years but that’s a terrible decision.

The only way that it would work is if you...
    A. Had a much shorter loan term on your current truck and traded it in and financed for a longer term.
    B. Add a large down payment to cover the price differential for the new truck.
    C. Have incriminating photos of the sale manager of the dealership and blackmail him into eating the cost of the new truck.

You could try to trade apples for apples and find another used 2018 with 4x4. You will not be able to get an even trade. If you go to a dealership you will be getting the lowest price for your truck and paying the highest for the replacement. Buying and selling privately you could pull this off for less out of pocket but you would not be able to sell your 2x4 for what the 4x4 would cost. The good news is there are a lot of slightly used 2018s on the market. One year leases? Anyway do not trade for a new truck. And unless you have a real need for 4x4 just keep yours.

My bigger concern is that you don’t seem to have a basic understanding of depreciation or the value of 4x4.

As has been said.. if you wanted to trade straight across (same everything) for an identical truck to the one you have now, you’d still spend $6k because depreciation and purchase prices.

    Add 4x4, and you’ll be spending $8-10k.

Subpar credit and good financial choices don’t hold hands, so you’re setting yourself up for an expensive lesson at some point in life.

How about going in and trying?

I went from 2016 sr5 2wd to a 2017 sport 4x4 manual and only paid 3k more. My 2016 only had 15k miles on it.

How many miles were on the 2017 when you bought it, or was it brand new?

New. It sat on the lot for 2 months, manuals don’t sell well down here.

I suggest you approach a dealer with the truck on the lot. You’ll have more negotiating power

They will do whatever you want. You might even get smaller payments. But payoff time will be thru the roof.

Manual sort of explains it. But you still got an absolutely insane deal. A $35,000 truck depreciates at least $5,000 just rolling off the lot. A year and 15K miles is another $2,000 at least.

Well how does this sound. Let’s say I go in their and let them THINK I’m ok with extending but let’s say I was gonna pay it off in cash next year will that save me on tail end?

That stuff doesn’t matter. The total out the door price matters.

Ok so I got my truck new with 3 miles on it. It has 12k miles

    I owe
    $31,000 at $550 month

Im hoping to trade in and get new 2018/2019 same trd sport DB LB 4x4 with no down at say $600 a month for 7 years if need be. I don’t care cause I’ll just pay it in full next year but I can’t tell them that. Guess I’m not good with playing the numbers game with them

So the new one goes for $37k
    So how does this work?

    $37k
    I owe $31k

What does the trade in for immaculate 2018 sport 4x2 DBLB get me with 12k pull in?

You need a friend to be your agent. Walk into a dealership talking monthly payments and you will be there best friend good luck with your venture.

I would plug the truck you own into KBB which should give you a pretty accurate trade in value. If their 37k is msrp, that's just a sticker price which should be highly negotiable unless it's a rare breed.
