I bought two of these Pioneer TS-TRX800 200w speakers from my dad for $100. I have never done anything more than a headunit wiring/change and mid changes, so I don’t really know how amps work or how to wire them.

Do you have any advice on what equipment I need to get next, or good mounting locations for a 1st gen halfcab?

These aren't subs - they're full range cabinets. They're designed to go in behind the seats of a single cab truck but could fit a double cab. Not sure what a 'half cab' is. If you want to use these as designed, you'll want a full-range amp with under 100W/ch. If you want to use them as subs, you'll want a small sub amp & will want to disconnect the horns. They will probably make poor subs though as I suspect they're tuned pretty high (remember this is a full-range design).

By horns do you mean tweeters? Any way to change the “tuning”?

Yes that's what I mean. Not sure if they are tweeters or compression drivers but the horns are obvious. Can change tuning but still gonna be a compromise as a sub. Any additional port would likely need to live outside the enclosure.

I had a set of those. Ran on an Alpine 60w x4, nothing else, and sounded great.

Step 1: get your money back from your dad if he told you these were subs.
Step 2: explain to us what a half cab is

I smashed those 8s and a kicker twelve into a custom box in my '86 Toyota standard cab. Aaaah, highschool.

I actually have them back in their original box now and use them for auxiliary audio in the den. Decent all around speakers, never seemed worth paying for an upgrade.
