I decided to replace the driver's side door weatherstripping as it was quite torn up on the bottom. Now the door won't close worth a darn. There is a huge gap at the top between the door and cab roof. The original factory weatherstripping had perfect door gaps. The new (OEM) weatherstripping looked exactly the same as the old one. I was very careful to install the new piece in the same exact location as the old piece (I used pieces of tape to mark all the various cutouts along the circumference). I am into this 20 minute job for many hours and I am ready to simply reinstall the old torn up weatherstripping. This is on my 1Gen Xtracab.

It sounds like you have the part installed so the "bulb" is towards the inside of the truck. The fat rounded side gous to the outside to crush against the door when it is closed.

As FastEddy said, we need a picture.

Here is the gap I am talking about and the passenger door showing a perfect factory gap, which is how the driver side used to look.

It looks like the correct orientation. It also looks tighter farther down the door. It's possible the door has been adjusted in the past and the poor fit you are seeing now is a result.
Believe it or not, if the lower portion is okay, the top of that door can be tweaked inboard by a stiff yank while supporting from the center down. A body man can pull the upper portion in to compress that weatherstrip. I've done it, but don't feel confident giving you the advice to try it. Done wrong you might break something.
If you know anybody who does bodywork, they can likely do so. If not, call a body shop and tell them you just need a door fitting. If I am correct, its about 5 mins work, so hopefully very cheap.

I bought the truck brand spanking new and the doors had a perfect fit. No accidents and no door adjustments. The old seal never caused the door to not close (I have to force it closed with the new seal). I hate to give up and put the old seal in (new seal was like $160), but I think that is what I am leaning towards.
