I pull it down once a year to clean it and check the pressure.

I check customers with my fist, everyone can check theirs by simply banging it, if there's any give, top it up! Doesn't need to be exactly 29psi to be safe, I like to have them about 38psi for storage.

It is a good idea to pull it down to clean/inspect/fill it every now and then, if it is not a matching spare that is used in 5 tire rotations.

I lower my spare at least once a year. If you never operate the crank mechanism, it can seize up from rust. It's also a good refresher on where the tools are and how to do it.

I over inflate the tire so it will have enough air even if it loses some.

I flipped mine for easier air checks, but I'm still on a 6mo schedule. Haha!

Some ambitious people in this thread!

I'm not even sure my truck still has a spare... I probably should check sometime.

I dropped mine when the truck was newer, put a couple of pool noodle pieces (split on one side) on the frame so as not to deform the sidewall any more than what was done.

Yup. This is good. Lube the cable as well as spray lube inside the mechanism. Me and a buddy spent 30 minutes helping a guy free up his spare tire due to a rusty mechanism. Finally got it. Guy offered us copious amounts of beer. Bummer both of us were on motorcycles:bikewheelie:

I flipped mine so I can add air a few times a year. Once a year i drop it so I know it'll drop when i need it to. I waxed the wheel to hopefully keep it from rusting. I've already used it and I only have 3k miles on my truck. To those who neglect, you'll need your spare at the exact worse time you can think of. It's never in the garage at home when would be the most convenient, don't forget to check on it.

I thought I was the only person that those indentations bothered. I solved it by laying sheet rubber on the tire where it contacts the frame. Been doing it for about 10 years and it never caused any issues with water laying or causing any kind of rust.

    I do 5 tire rotations.

So my spare tire and wheel gets the same attention as all my other tires.
