Corolla will be quicker off a line if you have a double cab auto I4. The Corolla will last a long time. My moms has 280k and the fuel pump went out at 210. Put in a used one since new ones were 800 dollars and that's the only problem she has had with it.

18" tires and rims, 2.75" Procomp lift, Fox shocks in rear.
That's an option for those who have no interest in mods.

The OP asked for suggestions on a more comfortable ride. Mods such as bigger tires and an upgraded suspension, for example, provide a more comfortable ride.

Auto or manual? If it's auto it's never getting good milage ever... Never ever ever. If it's manual then you'll see 25+ in stock form everything you do will make it worse. If you want a smoother ride you could try upgrading shocks and springs although most aftermarket leafs are going to be geared towards 4wd and stiffer. I wouldn't do anything with the tires keep the highway tires

Buy a camper top, get some beers in a cooler, go camping LOTS, get your truck dirty, and see where it takes you. Explore your state and the GD continent. If you like it, consider a 4wd if you can't get to where you want with 2wd, which is unlikely. I've had good 2wd trucks and 4wd, and 4wd tends to get you out of trouble you wouldn't have gotten yourself into if you'd been driving your 2wd truck!
