Anyone been "T" boned in a tacoma with rock sliders? How did it affect the crash? I just bought sliders and was wondering about crash safety. (Pictures encouraged)

In general the less ability for material to bend, the more energy will be transferred to movement of the entire vehicle during an impact and therefore the less passenger safety. Think dropping a bowling ball on a mattress vs on the kitchen table. Far more G forces transferred to the little man (you) strapped to the bottom the table than the bottom of the mattress. It's why new cars explode when hit but you can walk away from something that would have killed you just 30 years ago.

However in practice it depends on so many little factors. If the hit is real hard right on the slider, the slider will probably bend anyway. Plus odds are that they're driving a newer car in which case the crash absorbing characteristics of that car will still be present and will work to save both parties involved. By far the worst thing is to have a heavy aftermarket plate bumper/slider and get hit on it by somebody ELSE with a heavy aftermarket plate bumper. Odds of that are pretty small though.

I don't think it's worth worrying about with sliders. With heavy plate bumpers you should at least be aware that your collision safety is affected, but with sliders less so.

No, but I think it would help if getting hit from the side since it's bolted/welded to the frame. It's like a bumper on the side. Front and rear of vehicles has crumple zones, but in a side impact, the vehicle will be hitting the passenger compartment first and possibly into the passengers. A slider might slow it down, but ruin your frame. Just my opinion.

There's a post here about Demello's 4Runner experiencing this. No damage aside from scratches to sliders.

I don't recall but there were pictures posted of their 4runner and the car that hit them. I believe it was one of their x-wing sliders that was on it.

It was a decent impact, I'd guess 30-35mph no brakes, she ran a red light and I believe was a little intoxicated. She got out of the car and started blaming us, we turned and said mam you had a stop sign we didn't. She looked confused. It knocked us side ways a couple feet if I remember right. Keep in mind she came to rest in the cross walk and hit us 10feet before that I don't think we got shoved 10feet but maybe 3-5 feet. Frame was fine, 4runner drove great the next day after the spindle was replaced and I think I put new wheels on it too. The sliders are the same sliders still on there we sold it with. New owner wheels this truck everywhere.
