I do that when traveling and come across a young buck just starting out. Not too many cross my path in Reno.

You do you boss. You earned the right to use the promotion for vets. Some people are all about it others aren’t. I’m indifferent cause I usually forget what damn day it is anyway.

My wife and I had breakfast at a reastaurant yesterday. I was in my dress blues. Another couple paid for our breakfast with a ‘thank you for your service’.

    I still tipped the waitress.

Then, I handed her $40 and asked her to cover the meal for the next veteran or service member who ate there. Hopefully she did it instead of making it a payday. I think she did what was right, though.

You’re damn right I use my Lowe’s discount. I don’t ever ask for a discount and I will never take one from a small business. My old mechanic used to try and give me a vet discount I asked him not to cause I don’t like taking money out of mom and pops pockets.

Saved me a lot when I bought tile to do my whole house. Sand and carpets didn’t mix. Bought almost 10k in tile it was crazy to get a 1k discount.

Had a conversation with my dad this morning (a Vietnam get) who told me to “get out there and get everything you’re due because of what we didn’t get.” He’s finally quit carrying the resentment of how he was treated as a military member during the late 60s and early 70s. He’s like “they OWE you - take advantage for all of us who didn’t get that treatment in the past, and remind them that there are veterans everywhere in society.”

    Ok Dad, point taken.

Got back from the ceremony a little bit ago. Sad that only the real old timers participate in anything, at least around here. I was the youngest vet at the ceremony, at age 45. My boy was the only child there. I guess people are/were busy getting ready to watch football, priorities right!!

That’s what my Korean and Vietnam vet uncle said to me a few years ago. That’s what got me to finally go to the VA for help.

As a proud VA employee, I’m sorry that 1% of the asshats we still can’t seem to get rid of give the rest of us a bad name.

    Go team.

But you were there, and your son got to see it. He will grow up knowing that freedom isn’t free.

    Parenting done right, brother.

I'm a Cold War Veteran (1981-84) and got in a couple years after the Vietnam war so I know exactly what your Dad felt . We didn't start getting respect until after the first Gulf War !!!!

I've gone to quite a few Veterans Day celebrations , I'm 57 yrs old and yes you're right about the age group who attends these . It's sad to new all the younger Vets don't attend or understand the importance of it

I'm glad you brought your boy to the event !!!

So gosh darn it if you want to partake in the complimentary meals or services then so be it. Hold your head high and proudly go enjoy your meals. :oldglory: They are thanking you for your service, nothing more nothing less.

Yea my primary care sucked. There’s no real VA hospital here so we get use the choice program. My only VA doc now is my neurologist and he is awesome. Hopefully one day they can pluck off the leeches and get a good caring employee to take their place

It did take me a few years to get back into things related to my service. My VFW has tried recruiting more younger vets, offering to pay 1/2 the lifetime membership. They just don’t seem interested.
