Yeah, that blows this on out of the water.
Figured I'd Shoot it out. Probably better to go aftermarket in all honesty.

I decided to reinforce all the front oem skids similar what i did for the gas tank. If/when it gets bashed too much to be worth the effort of hammering back out, then I'll get some aftermarket.

For the amount of weight I'm not adding, really curious to see how they do.

    Front and mid skids done.
I have materials still to make a transmission skid but I've lost the will. ATF pan is tucked up there pretty good anyway.

    More pics.
I think i slotted holes in the UHMW enough to account for thermal expansion and didn't over tighten the bolts for it.

Thinking i may eventually heli-coil the frame nuts that factory skids mount to. Didn't like how rough their threads felt tightening down the bolts.

Now if the humidity would drop so the paint on my cb antenna bracket would cure...

Love the runner build dude! Do you regret trading in the Tacoma? Did you loose much on it? I’m on the same boat and not sure whether to trade or not

I always find it surprising how many people rid their taco for an SUV for kids. The BEST vehicle is a taco with a shell. Besides I got a 4R for the wife . The taco fits 3 carseats across, I can throw dirt, bloody deer/duck etc, beach gear, camping gear, and I can also carry a TON of luggage in the back and secure it. We did opt for the 3rd seat in the 4runner for when we have nieces and nephews etc. But, day to day, no difference, technically I could even haul more groceries :muscleflexing:

Stay with the Taco, you won't regret it. Or upgrade the wife and keep the taco...even better!!

Yes, Taco is fine with 3 carseats across...
Until you have the 4th kid.

4R is about 20" shorter than DCSB Taco so fits garage more easily.

If i didnt need the extra seats, i wouldnt have traded. No regrets though. I think the 4R is better built than 2nd gen taco in some regards. Foglight anytime mod is trickier in 4R.

    Ok, 1 regret...
    I should have tried a deal for 2 4Rs.
Wife likes the 4R better so now she drives it and i'm usually stuck taking her old car to work.

Expect to get roughly what KBB site shows for trade value on taco. Mods add nothing for you

Get an old school Runner, when it was more Hilux with a topper, than SUV.

 well played sir .Not many people hit the 4 mark. I'm already rare with 3. 4runner does look awesome by the way .And yes, I was checking specs to mod out my wife's 4R. She has had it for a few years and wants it stock height for just another couple years with lugging kids into carseats. Bit Bit we are doing wheels and tires installed on Friday :bananadance:

I wouldn't want to get rid of my taco. I told my wife I want 2 kids she wants 3. If she wants more shes gonna get a sequoia or 4runner
