Hello! My name is Rowbaretow and I just purchased a new 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road Double Cab Long Bed in Cement with the premium package. This is my build forum.

I did something like this with my last truck and people seemed to enjoy watching the progress I made building my rig to my own liking. I don't do crazy builds with huge suspension lifts or super expensive performance mods. I am building the truck out with minor components to make it just that much more mine. Everything I do, you should be able to do as well for a reasonable price.

I enjoy camping with the family and being outdoors yet this is my daily driver so it needs to be practical for both applications.

Here is a list of what to expect coming from this thread. Pictures will be posted along the way and I can give advice to what I have learned from my own experience and research.

    EDIT
    -New Tires
    -Window Tint
    -Floor Mats
    -Bed Rack
    -Tent Mount
-Lights lights lights (replacing lights, adding lights, controlling lights)
    -Dual Battery
    -Window Vent Visors
    -Black out emblems
-New Stereo (Entune sucks, I want wireless android auto.)
    -Dashcam install
    -Added storage
    -Lockable Tailgate
    -Remote Start

Here are a few photos of the truck stock to reference back to.

I just put some larger tires on the truck. 265/75/R16 BFG KO2's. I chose these tires due to their proven performance and quiet ride. They are E rated as I will be towing occasionally. I had them inflated to 40psi since it is getting colder her in Oregon now. Cold they are 34psi and warm back up to 40psi after a few miles.

I chose to go with 32's to fill out the wheel well more while maintaining some MPG. With the extra 1/2 I now sit at about 10in ground clearance. This is a very practical size and tire for most every situation.

Nice truck! I have been thinking of going 1 tire size up as well on my DCLB. Tires looking meaty!

    Looks great.

There is a build thread specifically for this to get more response.

Today I plastidip'd my emblems, removed the mud flaps, and installed my FrontRunner Bed Rack.

Coming up later this week I will be tinting the front windows to match the back and purchasing weather techs, bed mat, and some Window Vent Visors.

Here is a video of me peeling off the plastidip. For those that have not plastidip'd their logos before, it is so extremely easy. I did about 7-8 coats on the emblems, plenty left in the can.

Tinted front windows and installed my roof top tent. I am hoping the built in bed rails are strong enough to hold the tent with myself and wife in it. It looks very similar to the Frontrunner rails I drilled into my last truck and those held up well. I am pretty sure I read they are rated for 400lbs each. So 800lbs total. We should be fine.

I have weather mats and window visors coming in the mail this week. I got an add a fuse tap for the dashcam but I mistakingly ordered the wrong fuse size.

I added some black overlays to the Tacoma logo on the tailgate, new weather proof mats (off brand of weather-tech), and some window visors. Coming together!

Then about 30 minutes after this I took her up for her first camping trip. Got to try out the 4x4 and see what she can handle. Ate everything up and had zero issues. Never got stuck once and I was in snow, mud, rock, and small water crossings.

Fantastic write up! Those tires just make such a difference, and that's with no lift...? Have you found any useful appliances to plug into the bed outlet with that set up?

Oh how I wished I lived in the mountain states, soooo beautiful! I haven't even been in 4 wheel drive yet here in north Texas. Need a road trip... Thanks for the stoke!

1in bigger tires with no lift, all stock suspension. I did the same thing on my last truck but could fit 2in bigger.
I go as big as I can without any rub at all and call it good. A lift won't get me any higher ground clearance, unless I do bigger tires from the lift, which hurts MPG average driving.
32's are perfect. I agree completely the KO2's make a huge difference. Changes the whole stance of the truck. I've seen Subarus put luggy tires on with some sidewall and they look bad ass.

I honestly haven't figured out the plug in the back yet. I tired charging my speaker camping but had to keep the truck on. Which doesn't make much sense. I know that can't be right. I have plans for it I'm the future. Maybe a heated blanket for the wife or cooking crock pot meals in the woods. Fun stuff!

I've used BF Goodrich AT's on my last couple of Tacomas, as well as my wife's Nissan Frontier and they're great tires. However I may try something different when the time comes to replace the stock Wrangler AT's that came on my '18 Taco just for the sake of something different. Still, looks badass on yer truck !
That plug outlet is still somewhat of an enigma to me as far as it's real world usefulness... I did look up some youtube videos that showed what it will power. It doesn't make sense to have to run the vehicle's gas out to use it unless you could maybe power it with a secondary battery for things like a heated blanket etc.

Blacked out my chrome ring on the grill and rear bumper caps. I also installed LED lights in the cab, license plate lights, and reverse lights.

Just a quick question: How tall is the rack? Specifically, what is the distance from the bottom of the truck bed to the underside of the rack?

    Thanks!

Painted the stock wheels black and added a TRD cap. Then also added knock off TRD Pro grill. Liking the new look.

I made a post about how I Plasti Dipped them. Check it out. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/offroad-16in-wheel-plastidip.607183/

If you need more detail I can go into it, but it is an extremely easy process and some other users did what I did and posted their pics on my post. I am looking into wheel spacers now to get a more aggressive stance.

Very nice! Might want to have a moderator move this thread to the 3rd Gen Builds subforum to get more responses.
