Yeah the trailers are nice. I was at Expo East this weekend and Joe brought his newly built trailer, and it was slick being able to have all that storage and the RTT on top. I can definitely see the appeal

I took the rig up over the weekend and we found it trying to find a turn around spot to get back down with all the snow. Shorter wheel base and more seat area in a truck is the appeal. We were packed to the gills with this troop.AA29E01B-DACF-40BD-9DB3-DA4B465C178E.jpg

@ovrlndkull knows the trail limo life all too well. Going from that to a T4R will be quite the difference!

The DCLB is cool but if I’m trying to keep up and wanted something fully versatile the 4Runner I think would be the call. A lot of the WDR is all fire roads with washout areas. Leaving the trailer set up in a camp spot and continuing to explore is key. The wife has a point when it comes to setting up breaking down to go and hike or whatever we want to do. The trailer life is a pain but it does tick a majority of the boxes when it comes to National Park visits and camping/hiking trips

Try doing that with a trailer attached to the ass of the vehicle good luck. I'm pretty good at the Austin Powers 1,000,000 pt turn around! I like the trailer idea for one reason to set up base camp after that it's all on the truck. If I am going really remote exploring no trailer. With a T4R you are limiting your cargo ability to get more remote because trailer problems and wheeling with one is a whole other experience.

Wife wants a T4R. Only fear, aside from the price tag and list of mods, is that I would give up my Taco for one too..

You nailed all my rational thinking. I do worry about the trailer but at the same time getting super remote out here is fairly easy. A lot of fire roads example:

I'm not a fan of hauling a trailer through roads like that. You just have one more thing to worry about. Now taking one to an offroad park leaving it at the campgrounds or taking it to a Nat'l park or something I am all over it. Like I would never take a trailer to Moab or the Rubicon I'd be fully sustainable in my truck.

Understood. I have never been to either so I’m completely unfamiliar with Moab and Rubicon. More of a wheel base thing too for me. It feels a bit handicapped at times but then again since the upgrades I haven’t really given it a hard go (meaning locker actually works now).
Wheeling with some guys in T4R open/open I have seen some shit that I would never think possible. Hate to say the J word but open/open Jks also. But then again jks/jeeps alike have zero storage.

I’m sure I could set up a base camp near Moab or rubicon?

I think if you're gonna tow a trailer at all, it should be at a place like moab where it's nice and open. I would think a trailer would become an issue when it's a place like AOAA where it's tight as fuck. And out west where you can drop camp anywhere, if you wanna do something harder, just drop the trailer, go wheel and come one back.

Moab you can travel all day in you'll want to bring your camp with you. We took our scouts out there and bike camped it is so open and so remote going back and forth to and from camp you'll miss a lot of the fun areas and harder trails. You'll spend more time maneuvering that trailer and getting around with that than you would just riding in the vehicle.

Jeeps is a whole different thing solid axles much better front suspension, sway bars disconnected get much better articulation and more tires in contact with the ground etc. The answer to that is speed, momentum, and skinny pedal. You are just as capable as the Yota just gotta use your truck plus it's much easier to go 35s or 37s in the taco than the runner. That'll give you more ground clearance and better angles to not get HC.

Also heard the 4 runner is a bit top heavy. Yea I had some stock jk sports walk some shit and get out of my way this weekend because I couldn’t find a spot big enough to move. I wheeled with a stock runner on 33’s and he was doing everything we were no problem. Plus Kevin @ADV4R would dominate rausch sections that I felt hard pressed to maneuver without sliding into trees. Maybe bobbing the bed is the option but then I’m still missing space in the cab for 2 dogs and 3yo. Plus wife

So cab space is key. I wouldn't bob the bed what you have for armor should be just fine. When you wheel parks on the East coast unless you have a Baby taco or some other really short WB truck you may have trouble. I've ran into that again sometimes slow moving not carrying momentum is your enemy.

If you need the space for a growing family get the runner. You just are going to have trade offs with whichever direction you go.

I'm not sure if I actually shared this in here, but I got some Baja Designs fog lights to go with the 20" bar that I won! Both will be here on Wednesday and I plan on wiring them in this weekend. Of course I want to wire them in as soon as they arrive, but I really want to take my time with these and not rush the install out of excitement.

I also plan on knocking out some smaller items, like fluid film and finding the rattling heat shield. Maybe even bedlining the floor if it comes in in time.

I took my trailer up union springs at flagpole right after I got it. It was my first time up union springs as well. I would have been fucked trying to turn around in some of those spots if a BIG tree had fallen. Now if I'm exploring the trailer stays at home. If I know I have a place to camp I will bring it.

Right on. That’s a big selling point for us. Dropping setting up camp, everything being lockable etc. now it’s like unzip annex, zip up bags, leave cooler etc and fold everything up on the ground in the annex. Kind of lame

Can also confirm that a base camp is pretty damn handy. I doubt I would take my trailer into anything serious. Just drop and go explore. A good lock should give you piece of mind!
