First post, long time reader. Great forum everyone, but something has been bugging me. In my ‘17 Tacoma I have tried the following with no luck.

HID lowbeam - various kits (too much shaking, shades of color also vary among companies, pricey)
LED - great reflector fog color and output, not strong enough for down the road. Flicker upon vehicle startup in lowbeams.
Performance halogen - haven’t tried yet, but would like to.

    I had an idea.

Why don’t I try performance halogens in the lowbeams (h11) and LED’s in the fog lights. This gives me the long range lighting I need with no flickering upon vehicle startup and the wide bright white light I need in front of the vehicle with the LED fogs.

    After reading up on http://bulbfacts.com/halogen-bulbs/chart/projectors.html
And various posts on here I think the Philips +100 is the way to go. As far as LED’s I’m willing to try these as they have great output and resemble the stock fog light plus its not huge like many LED’s out there. H11/H8/H9 LED Headlight Bulbs Low Beam/Fog Light with Fan, SEALIGHT S2 Series Mini Design Upgraded CSP Chips 6000K Xenon white IP67-2 Year Warranty (2 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HCZ7RZ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_3lT6Bb1YT5QMT

Has anyone on this forum tried this combo I’m referring to? I understand the colors may not match exactly, but from a distance the Philips +100 look really nice. Parked up close against a wall they may appear more yellow. In the long run I think this is my best bet. Thoughts?

I’ve read these have no hotspots....like at all for lowbeams. That’s why I passed them up.

This is the same thing i did. Phillips H9 for low beam is a nice improvement. I went with KC Gravity for my fog lights.

I’ve tried XD LEDs and GE +130 / Philips +100

I prefer the Philips out of that bunch. Brighter and better throw than stock but still with a warm enough tone that the light scatters better with less glare in the rain.

I’m trying to decide what I want to do with my fogs now. Love LEDs but hard to get the same width of coverage you get to the sides with a halogen. I’ll likely replace with a brighter amber or yellow tones halogen

I have a similar setup - Halogens on Low and LED on Fogs.

If you are looking for long range lighting, GE 130+ is the way to go. Color is around 2700-3000k and the focus is spot on. Plenty bright even on wet roads.

    Check out this link:

For fogs, I run a cheapo OPT-7 H11. I only use it now when absolutely needed (I used it often when I had LED lows) because the GE 130s are that good.

I chose Philips because it’s available locally when I need it. GE has to be ordered so when bulbs burn out...not good. I know I can buy spares but just prefer it that way.

True, just harder to find close by. Online is tough too because you don’t have a lot of retailers.

Since h11’s are interchangeable within h8 and h16 why can’t we use these Philips bulbs in our fog lights on some vehicles?

While the Designs of H8, H11, and H16 are identical (or at least enough so to be basically interchangeable), it is the wattage that is different. H8s run at 35W, H11s are 55W, while H16s are only 19W. You could put a 55W H11 bulb in an H16 housing, but you're very likely to run into heat-related problems down the line. Melted wiring/housings are no fun.

But if they are LED they are not nearly the wattage that you’re mentioning as a replacement bulb

Talking about LEDs why don’t your LED pro lights have any hotspot as multiple threads here indicate? @crashnburn80

I personally think you should run HIDs on the Low Beams. Regarding the COlor Output, Stock HIDs from factory come with 4300k therefore I would suggest to keep that. As that is the best kelvin temperature to use for the sake of "visibility". Other people that go such as 6 or 8k, will have their lights look "whiter" however it is not the best to see.

Since you are running projectors, those HIDs would be more effective than an LED Bulb would in my opinion.

Big ones are King suspension, SSO bumper w/winch, Pelfreybuilt sliders.
What you've done OP is essentially what I've done. You don't need distance so LEDs work for fogs. You don't want HIDs/LEDs for reflector housings that arent built for them. So a high level halogen is the way to go. I haven't tried your specific brands, but I think the combo works great. I have the Philip Xtreme that was mentioned earlier. Work fine and give a white look, as opposed to the yellow standard halogen.

Nice! Have any pics? What brand LED’s did you go with? I actually have projector housings and not reflector housings.

What about going with the Philips XtremeVisions’s h11 in the projector housing vs HID?

That’s what I have in my 4Runner and wish I would have tried them in my Tacoma before I sold it.

The change wasn’t dramtic in the 4runner with the XtremeVisions. But, I have a feeling it would have been more of an improvement on the 2017 Tacoma. Those bulbs were lame.
