Guess I’ve been lurking long enough... I’ve focused most of my TW time on the weekly photography challenge thread lately, only glancing over here on occasion. I got my first DSLR this summer and have quickly come to enjoy photography. Here’s one from last weekend in the Utah desert. 91DCCE7F-36B7-46EF-BF52-7F3474D442CE.jpg

I've asked this before in here but don't remember the answer. Who here as done metal prints? I'd like to try one and maybe do some for christmas gifts.

This is a shot I was thinking of doing:

Any one have suggestions on a place to do it? Have heard Costco does pretty good.

Never printed anything before, should I change the photo edit for printing?

Bay Photo does excellent metal prints. They also have the expertise to help with adjustments if needed

since my EOS Elan circa 1990 (film SLR)

before that I was big on Pentax, had a MX 35mm SLR for years and years but it wasn't autofocus OR autoexposure, and my wife couldn't focus or expose so I got the EOS.

but now days, it seems like all I use is my Pixel cellphone :p

Well then I have a question for y’all. I picked up a T6i this summer and I have taken to photography like a duck to water. I developed an eye for landscape composition shooting film and p&s digital, then more recently my phone. I’m still learning about manual photography (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, W Balance, etc.) and by no means have I mastered the art. With that said I’m curious about upgrading my entry level body to something more advanced. I don’t have the budget to get the 5D MK IV and a bunch of L series lenses that I want, but I have invested in some decent glass. So I was thinking about the 80D or the 7D MK II, to keep running my crop sensor glass. Rumor on the street is that Canon May release updated version of those bodies in the next few months. So I’m looking for suggestions for an upgrade.

I believe the T6i has the same camera sensor and largely the same brains as my EOS 60D, which is a damn good camera. the newer models give you more video features, yawnnnnn. I don't think the 80D would do that much for you that you can't do with the T6i *except* shoot better video... me, I'm not that into video, its a LOT of work to do right.

I doubt I'd get another DSLR body unless it was full frame. frankly, I'd be more likely to go mirrorless, the last couple years I shot more with my brain damaged EOS M than the 60D.

If you are not going to a full frame now , but think you might ,The old rule applies ,spend your money on good glass not bodies. You can buy a 70-200 f4 non IS or a 17-40 f4 used for a reasonable price.
If I could only have 1 lens it would be a 70-200 . For landscapes a full frame is a lot better, I used a crop sensor 50 d for years

I think the comment about great glass is so true. Regardless of what brand you shoot.

    going to be fun!
    Greetings all,

Okay I think this is the yr I jump in and move ahead with my inspirations to be a fair photographer here is what I am thinking of starting with. Any input good or bad is more than welcome! Would this be a solid start and something to build off of? Either one of these lenses will be my choice as I want to only carry two lenses.
