Example of extended warranty actually helping?

I bought the extended warranty thinking this was a new gen. so maybe it would help with some bugs down the line. Has anyone actually had an issue that was covered by the extended warranty?

 

I had used mine on an '88 Ford. Saved me more than the cost of the warranty.

Since then the only warranty claim I've had was on a pool pump.

True story.

 

I worked on a sienna van a few weeks ago that needed a tv for the dvd player. Toyota tv price was $10,400 before the exchange dont know how much it was after. Extended warranty paid for it but most people are going to get the warranty then never need it or trade the car back in before its out of the extended warranty, if chances where you would spend less money buying the warranty/insurance than total repair costs during your coverage the insurance company would be out of business.

 

I bought a used 2012 STi in 2015. I threw a steering rack and pinion and it saved me $1800.

 

The biggest problem these trucks face is the radio unit freezing. It can be over 2500$ to repair. Most extended covers the first 4+ services and tire repairs as well.

I had it only due to the lease, but I would never bother with a Toyota unless it was a work horse.

 

Never needed the extended warranty on a Toyota or even used the warranty.

But, I did buy the extended warranty on a used 2008 Subaru Outback XT Turbo, thank god. Bought it with 60k miles, soon after the turbo blew, then the engine died, then the trans went out, finally I just traded it in. What a shit show that was.

 

Yeah, that’s what I thought too. Had a 2002 tundra with an extended warranty. Blew through 110k miles in 3 years and only replaced pads, plugs, and a battery. Bought my FJ nd skipped on the warranty. At 60k I got the dreaded torque converter stutter. 130k miles later I still had it.

Stutter that is. I weaseled the dealer down to $700’ish I think for a 100k warranty on the Taco and went ahead and bought it. It’s supposed to cover heavy wear and tear too... we’ll see about that if it comes to it.

 

My extended warranty on my FJ paid for a brake controller (ECM) and two trans rebuilds after 2nd-3rd gear shifting went to hell. Happened at 40K and 70k miles. Warranty covered 100%

 

What year? Mine was an ‘07 and I believe the TC tolerances were just a little off. I learned to live with it rather than shell out $1k for an aftermarket. Planned to do it if I ever bought a travel trailer, but haven’t done that yet.

 

Used it twice on the 13 T4R on the front door lock actuators. Would have been about $550 each from my recollection.

 

Not worth it. Bought it for my wife’s 2012 Mazda 3, 1st gen for the skyactiv engine, 100k mile warranty. Never needed or used it. Still going strong at 160,000 miles.

I opted to skip on my 17’ Tacoma, and I’ve had about 3 things replaced on the truck that were covered under the 3 years/36k mike warranty.

I feel confident it will go into 200k+ territory with minimal issues.

Just get all the kinks worked
Out in the 3 year/36k warranty, and make sure you note any issue you have in those 36k miles. If it happens to be out of factory warranty and you mentioned the problem before hand and it was never addressed, usually Toyota will honor it, if there was a TSB for
That issue. I speak from experience with my clutch assembly that was just replaced at 42k miles. $800 job, covered for free since it was squeaking well before 3 yr/36k was up.
