The: "You bought your Tacoma because" Positive Thread.

Because my previous vehicle was a Tacoma. O don't forgot trade in value.

 

I’ve always driven Toyota truck 4x4’s , so my 2001 was approaching 300,000 Miles so I got a 3rd generation 4cy 4x4 2016. I grouse hunt and am off road quite a bit in the hunting season..... made sense

 

I’ve gotten into even tighter spots 6” either side. I was surprised. Although I did park it Austin powers style. Lol

 

I got my Tacoma because I wanted a truck. Didn’t think I’d afford new but luck struck & was able to get my ‘17 sr5 dcsb. Luck struck again & I upgraded to an ‘18 trd or dcsb w/ tech

 

because i've had every kind of truck/ car.. every kind of 4x4. and tacoma is the most reliable, dependable and capable truck ever made on planet earth if we are talking $ to power ratio...

 

It's interesting that many have purchased based on previous ownership, while others have purchased for resale, want/desire, or reliability. Fewer (some), however, mentioned they purchased (at least by posts so far) for the financial prospective VS other options, full size trucks, etc. Leads me to believe that many would have made the purchase regardless of cost analysis (as long as it wasn't crazy expensive by comparison). Toyota living by brand loyalty may be a stronger reality than we even give it credit for, it's obviously a strong contributing factor in the high resale (buyers still willing to pay up top dollars for used). To me, however, the product is still filling a sweet spot financially, that $60-85K full size trucks don't, giving average families the option of owning a truck that they might not otherwise have, a few of us older guys reasoned this into our decision as we plug toward retirement and try to hold onto our money like velcro, simply not wanting to pony up another $20-30K on a different option. Market research is showing that fleets, construction companies, government, etc. are still a primary buyer of the full size trucks despite the huge price increases in the last 10-15 years, which is a huge contributing factor in keeping the unit numbers up on full size sales. IE: A fleet buys 100 trucks, a private owner buys 1. This may very well be skewing the numbers of total units sold...as compared to say....private party buyers alone. Did the financial cost spread between Tacoma and alternatives come into play for anyone? Tacoma lease residuals are superior to every other vehicle out there (yes EVERY other. It has the #1 residual)....it is impossible to lease any other truck cheaper than you can lease a Tacoma...was this a factor in anyone's decision in getting one? and...reaching here...is it safe to say, that Toyota's master plan is to get people into their vehicles, use them and like the vehicles, become loyalist, and then follow that loyalty with ongoing future/follow-up purchases? It certainly seems to be playing out that way on this thread....with repeat buyers/owners. I was pretty confident that most owners would state buying the truck to fit their current life position, needs, wants, desires, etc. and resale would be their reasoning, but I also assumed more, than have currently stated, would also site financially making sense as a factor in their purchase. Anybody? Bueller...Bueller?

 

IDK. I'm 55 and not even thinking about retirement yet other than socking money into some safe funds.
Money was not even a consideration. Durability and reliability was paramount in the decision to buy a Tacoma.
As far as brand loyalty? Nope. If Honda or any other manufacturer made a truck as durable and dependable I would definitely look at it for a replacement.

 

same. after totaling my last car from hitting road debris, i made durability a priority. and my last ride's greatest asset was its reliability... that thing ran like a clock for 136k miles perfectly. so i was looking to keep that going too. this is my first Toyota.

 

I had a job in college in which an 02 tundra V8 AC 4wd was driven every minute of every day, 365 days a year. 50k miles per year around a very small private community. Besides burning through front tires because of the hundreds of cul de sacs it turned around in everyday, it was unstoppable. I was blown away by how well it held together, even getting beat on every single day by almost every employee. I was sold on Toyota's undeniable reliability.

So senior year of college I bought an 01 Tundra that was creeping up on 300k miles. It too had been heavily beat on and I was amazed at how flawlessly it continued to perform.

Grew up a bit and needed a newer, more comfortable truck for work.

I immediately started looking for 2015+ Tundras, knowing i was going to buy used.

My current 2016 Tacoma popped up at a local dealership. Took the Tacoma for a spin after taking a 2017 Tundra for a spin and was sold immediately. The size is perfect for my lifestyle. Semi-reasonable gas mileage was something I had not experienced in a long time. More tech, which I have always desired.

To boot, the Tacoma looks fantastic to me. I know this is a widely debated topic, but I absolutely love the way my OR looks in stock trim, bucktooth bumper and all.

Finally, it's a Toyota Tacoma. Perhaps my whole post could be just the first sentence of this last line. I mean, come on.

 

Bought it because it was my dream vehicle and always has been. No brainer, no issues that can't be resolved. I like the reliability, the resale, the comfort, the utility aspect. It can get me anywhere I need it to get me so it was the perfect option. Great trucks.

 

Because I needed a 4x4 4dr and my 96 mini tacoma was such a great truck that I had to stick to a toyota. Plus it's the perfect size not too big but still can be used as a TRUCK

Plus they are the best looking midsized truck out there

 

I watched back to the future. Love that tacoma in that movie. Can't find any of those old ones so I bought my 06. Just bought a 4runner on the weekend . I think I'm hooked..... his my name is Tim and I'm a toyota holic lol

 

I would agree about financial sense...... I got my truck with my trade in of my 2001 Tacoma and financed what I would consider a great deal.....

 

Great deal meaning not a lot of money financed .... not a great deal of money.... sorry

 

Always wanted one. I was a BLM Ranger in the 70’s. My patrol sector was the US Mexico border area. west of Yuma. The Toyota’s back then were the best. Great performance on the rocky steep terrain, serious sand dunes and extreme heat. Lots of mods available even at that time. Back then I bought a Datsun King cab because that’s all I could afford. Now I have my Taco and love it.

"Downsized" from a 3500 extended length sprinter van, the taco fits a little better in my parking spot! Always wanted one and when i moved to the PNW seemed like the right truck for what i wanted to do.

 

Traded in my '85 SR5 for a '90 SR5 (SB, V6, MT)..
Then my wife got pregnant and we needed extra seats..
So I traded the '90 for an '88 4-runner (solid axle, removable hardtop, LOVED that truck)..
Then lost the 4-runner to her in a divorce and got stuck with her Plymouth Minivan
Well, I couldn't stomach driving the Minivan, but couldn't afford another Toyota (remember, divorce)..
So I bought a 99 Jeep Cherokee, which rusted apart just over 100k..
Traded it in on a '04 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which started to lose the transmission just over 100k..
Traded it in on an '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee (Hemi ), which started to nickle-and-dime me to death with electrical gremlins just over 100k...

Decided, F This, I'm back to my Toyotas that never let me down And have been happy ever since.

 

...because my last Tacoma went for 232,000 miles. Loyalty loyalty loyalty.

 

I had been considering a truck for a while, but once I became a homeowner I needed something to haul for renovation projects. I knew any truck I bought would likely be a 8-10 year commitment so I wanted something that would last. I also knew I wanted a 4 door model because eventually kids will be in the picture.

I wanted the Chevy Colorado (always been a GM guy), but it had a 4 month wait to get a quad cab as it was brand new at the time. I also ditched that idea because we had some vehicle issues which led me to the feeling that I don't trust any GM that doesn't have their rock solid V8 (my GTO is over 120k with still no issues).

My girlfriend's (now wife) dad had a Tacoma, at the time he had over 150k on it and not one issue. I figured it deserved a shot.

I tested the Toyota and the Frontier, and told the salesmen that I wasn't buying yet, just testing. The Toyota felt like a decent ride, and the salesman wasn't pushy at all. The Nissan salesman was very aggressive and trying to make the sale, despite what I had told him. The Frontier just felt cheaper too, and rode heavy...if that makes sense.

So two weeks later I went back to the Toyota dealership and bought my Taco. I intended to get an SR5 short bed, but they cut me a great deal on my TRD Sport long bed (when all was said and done it was sold to me at the sticker price of the SR5). Every single time I've used it to haul, I've been very happy to have the extra space in the bed.
