need brake controller advice

hey guys, i'm gonna start towing with the new truck in a couple of weeks. i havent towed a lot in the past, so what brand of brake controller is the best and easiest to install? what do you guys use?

 

Prodigy is what I hear most guys using, I have an old Voyager.. Works fine. My truck was NOT pre-wired, so I can't help with plug Adapters..

Never used it on the tacoma - but we have a Tekonsha Prodigy and used it for years on the Dodge Ram. GREAT controller!

Drawtite Activator III (discontinued now, but still available online if you look)

Best install possible in the Tacoma particularly for those of us with the manual transmission with a parking brake where the brake controller cubby is (To the right and down from the steering wheel)

Tekonsha PIII, on my tacoma and towing a Fleetwood Evolution III, excellent device, easy to setup and very customizable.

 

We have a Tekonsha Sentinel on Dad's Dodge Ram for use when we tow a 24' 5th wheel camper. It seems that we are always fiddling with the adjustment. When I'm going down a 6% grade for 7 miles, I don't need that extra wieght shoving me around with an unreliable/poorly adjusted braking system.

I'm hoping to get him something like the Prodigy as a Christmas gift.

 

I had a Jordan in my last truck which I liked alot.

I just put a Prodigy in my Taco last week since I couldn't find another Jordan, I have yet to try it out so I have no opinion on it yet.

 

whatever one you get make sure that it isnt just a basic one that only controls the power, find one that has an adjustable ramp up feature in it. im not sure what i have but it was only $67.99 and has the feature on it.... i'll go find out what it is and post up later.

 

Just put a prodigy in our new tacoma. Mounted it underneath the steering column via industrial strenth velcro tape. Was the only spot I could find that put it out of the way, works great there. Pulls/handles the horse trailer with one horse, suprisingly well!
