Regrets on TRD PRO Wheels with BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2?

Hey Everyone,
I am looking for a good “summer” set up for my SR Access Cab I just picked up. Does any regret the trd pro wheels and bf Goodrich combo and wish they went with something else?

 

I got the wheels and at the last minute I decided against the bfgs. Too many complaints about being hard to balance and my local odf road shops says the same. Especially for a Toyota, says it's even harder to get a perfect balance and that road forcing, and too much of a headache. I went with Toyo at2 open country. Great tire but had one that needed a re balance and they barley took any weights.

However . . . . My KO2's are over 50k miles so I think I'm going to replace them with Bridgestone Dueler Revo 3's because the 265/70/17's rub a little on my WeatherTech mud guards at full lock. You can't get the KO2's in 265/65/17's in a C rated tire. The Duelers are 11 pounds lighter and won't rub.
I have a "No Flares" SR5, and Toyota doesn't make mud guards for it. Going to the largest stock size (265/65/17) will fix it.

I've had them for like 20k miles now. Solid setup. I still like them and they have served me well but balancing was and continues to be an issue. Not terrible but could be a lot better. I'm not sure what I'll get next but I'm certainly going to explore other options.

I pulled a Ford Raptor out of the mud a few weeks back with KO2's on it. I'll stick with mud grade tires and skip em, they look like good gravel and city tires.

 

45k miles on this set... Still rockin. When they are done I will replace them with same.

 

I had KO2's on my 2nd gen and I was pretty happy with them.. They rode a little stiffer than expecting but not bad. I ran 265/70/17's on my 2nd gen.. Had them for about 30k miles and towards the tail end of those miles the snow traction and wet traction were definitely not as good, but still ok. I have Falken Wildpeak AT3W in 265/75/16 on my 3rd gen and have been pleased so far. Little bit of snow driving tonight, and tomorrow morning's commute will have a few inches of snow so I will really be able to test them out. Can't go wrong with either, but for the money, you can't beat the Wildpeaks.

 

I know this is a slightly older thread, and the OP never got back to us regarding his decision. Anyway, I thought I would chime in.

I upgraded to the 17" TRD Pro Wheels and BFG TA KO2's (265/70/17) with raised white-letters a few months ago. I really like them, but they do have their drawbacks. When weather starts to cool down a little bit here in the desert, I plan on taking them on some dirt trails. I suspect they will do fine. Not much mud here in the desert during the dry season!

Some drawbacks:
1) They seem like a real rubbery tire. Probably makes for excellent dry traction in dry dirt and gravel like someone mentioned above. When you brake or turn, with your windows down, you can hear the "squishy-ness" of the tire.
2) The +1 size definitely slows the truck down. The heavier and larger tire/wheel arrangement affects acceleration and braking. I noticed this immediately after install. With the oddball gearing and automatic transmission sluggishness of the 3rd gen, it is very apparent.
3) Gas mileage down...slightly. City MPG (stop and go) affected big time. Highway MPG only slightly lower.
4) Wheel/tire combo may rub with mud flaps. I have the factory mud flaps, and I will say that I only encountered rubbing once. It happened when I turned and traveled up a curb. The wheels were turned probably about 30+ degrees and I went up the curb bump. Any other time--reverse full-turn, forward full-turn, U-turns, etc.--I have not encountered rubbing.

Positives:
1) Looks fantastic, especially with the wheel/tire combo.
2) Seems to be great dry traction on the road.
3) Quieter than the stock Goodyears.
4) No rubbing (for the most part; see #4 above).




FINAL VERDICT: No regrets!

 

Just perfect!
