So I'm surprised by the sheer variety of brake calipers available... 5 different brands for the 14WA that I've seen so far ranging in price from around $50-$90each...

Not really sure which to go with.

For an aftermarket caliper, is there a brand to be avoided?

The dust shields are OEM and pretty sure I'm going with the stoptech slotted rotors & EBS pads.

Undecided on calipers.

Yes

 

I would go with the High end calipers. The one thing you dont want to cheap out on is brake parts.

 

My vote is for OEM. $280-ish (ea) brings you're total up around $700-ish, a little more but still a lot less that $2k!

 

I tried to get the Napa calipers for $96.49 each but they were backordered with no eta, so I went with Centric from Rockauto.

Yup, read that one too.
I think the easiest albeit not inexpensive option would be to swap in an FJ rear axle. You’d also need to upgrade the master cylinder too I believe.
@SMKYTXN has an adapter for swapping to a GM master I believe.
He’s done a SAS though...

 

That was a good read. He did a lot of work to get the rear disc to work.

I don't know why we don't have rear disc by now. My wife's hilander has rear disc, along with every other care made in the past 8 years.

I never upgraded running f250 calipers on 42s

 

Drove the truck for work yesterday & today. Odometer showed 336 miles when the gas light came on. Mathematically that put me @ 12.36MPGs.
Winter gas maybe?
Regardless I filled up knowing there was still plenty in the tank. Took 25.82 gallons - basically telling me I still had over 8 gallons in the tank. I know with the stock tank when the light came on I still had like 3 gallons left...
So I figure when that light comes on, based on the above info I can easily go another 60 miles.

 

Mines an 07 and has the separate ABS system on the passenger side fender well...

 

Bottom line:
New LRA tank means stopping to pee before stopping to fuel up on road trips.

The furthest I’ve ever driven non-stop was 406 miles once in my Scion tC.

 

I haven’t yet, but he sells a Saquoia Master and adapter plate too. Still works better than the drums. @jberry813 did the full install, but went the extra mile with stoptech calipers.

 

Yes, I’ve read through Jason’s thread too. I actually drove his truck prior to him purchasing it from the previous owner. @jberry813 did a great job documenting the rear axle swap.
That’s a few steps further down the rabbit hole than I want to go.

 

Took some time to do some much needed maintenance this morning.

First order of business was to fuel up:


Pork roll with a American cheese omelette.

Air filter, plugs, throttle body service, and a new drive belt.

Old & new filter:

Old vs. New plugs. They were cooked.

Drive belt was short a rib or two

I also completely removed and cleaned out the entire air filter assembly while I had it off to swap the plugs.

Truck has officially turned over 190K on the Clock.
