Yea I was referencing Blackstone. They have a test that looks for all sorts of things including water. I bet if you emailed them and explained the situation they would be interested in figuring out what was in that jug too. Their analysis is like $30

I got a jug from walmart that was old oil, returned it and the person at returns said something like "ohh yeah another one" thus im thinking this happens a bit. Buy a jug, change oil, return jug of old oil.

Finally heard back from Quaker State (Shell).

Still just in it to see what the final say-so from Shell is. Not even trying to get anything out of it, just curious.

That was the odd thing. You'd think if it was watered-down oil the oil would have been a filmy layer on top with water at the bottom. Wasn't like that, it was more like chocolate milk.

So, just as an anti-climatic update... turned out it was exactly as others had suspected. Quaker State determined it was not an issue on their end and recommended that I return it to the store where I purchased it. Did exactly that, and got my money back.

Still, I won't be buying any of their oil ever again. Their choice to not include the foil seals means that this problem is much more susceptible to happen in the future. I'll just stick to Castrol.

Yeah, it was posted a few posts back.

Basically I ended up sending the lot #'s and stuff over to Shell so they could verify it wasn't a bad batch that made it into the wild. They ended up claiming no responsibility and advised me to return the jug to WalMart for an exchange. Lady at Walmart was surprised of the situation, but gave me a refund without hassle.

The lack of foil cap on Quaker oil lost me as a customer. I'll never buy their products again. Something like this could've cost someone less informed an entire engine.

Damn, never even occurred to me people would return old oil, but I'm also not surprised. Thanks for sharing.
