    Good day all,

This thread is replacing the "Roostfactor’s Equal Length Y-Pipe" thread so I can provide information updates, developments, waiting list progression, etc. in this post as the op.

Huge thanks to @5thGearPinned for creating the other thread but now I think its time to consolidate things a bit better and the only way to do that is by creating my own thread.
The original thread can be found here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/roostfactor’s-equal-length-y-pipe.562388/

This all started when I sought out a manufacturers equal length complete catback which had been sold by the company previously. I called them and there were no plans to build any further systems because a rare few people experienced less than ideal results. So I decided to research exhaust design, purchase exhaust tuning software, a bunch of tubing, mandrel bends, mufflers, resonators, etc., and a TIG welder with associated supplies.

The exhaust program that I bought requires a large amount of engine specs for the most accurate calculation and I found out very quickly that our 1GR doesn't have all of the specs readily available like an LS motor would for example. I got the specs from many places including extensive Googling and @Torspd (don't tell anyone but he knows a little bit about 1GR's).

I found out very quickly that there was nothing you could buy for our engine that took advantage of the exhaust after the headers/exhaust manifold. We have the optimum engine configuration for an equal length exhaust because each cylinder fires 120 degrees apart alternating cylinder banks with each power stroke. A standard firing order V8 tries to scavenge via "H" or "X" pipes but since the firing order is uneven on conventional V8's its exhaust scavenging potential is much less effective than our configuration.

    So I started with this
    11357.jpg
    and ended up with this.
    11353.jpg

This was the finished product and the only one I ever planned on making. It doesn't look the prettiest but the tubing diameter, length, and a true merge collector proved very effective both in performance and sound!

I had been in PM contact with @loginfailed for awhile troubleshooting the 2012+ UCON teething issues and one day he asked me what I thought of him installing a factory type 3" muffler in place of his Magnaflow 12579 which comes on probably all of URD's exhausts. I told him the problem was in the y-pipe, NOT to install that restrictive muffler. A month or so later he came to my house for the weekend and we fabricated a more refined design very similar to what I make now, while utilizing all of the parts we could off of his other "performance y-pipe".
Here is what we came up with:

    Dwayne's y-pipe.jpg

He liked the result both in performance and sound! After a few posts of our weekend fabricating a few others inquired about me building one for them. At that point I started a PM and had a few people to make y-pipes for. Here is the first post from that first conversation and my policy and prices:

    "Good morning gentlemen,

Since you guys have shown interest in this, let me give you a little history of my y-pipe quest. I first attempted to get
URD's Spec-U equal length y-pipe but he had discontinued making them because some people had serious droning issues. I already had his equal length headers and I fully understand the benefits of extending the equal length header through another equal length set of tubes to an efficient merge collector. But, the big factor is length. There are very specific lengths that need to be determined in order to maximize the exhaust scavenging effect. If the incorrect length is used then you can actually hurt performance because the negative exhaust pressure waves will not be timed correctly to help pull the exhaust out of the cylinder when the exhaust valve opens.

URD's Spec-U system did not capitalize on this effect although his system was still equal length (better than the offroad y-pipe. He is more into mass manufacturing and has to cater to a larger audience. So his system doesn't merge until behind the transfer case which is way to long for the secondary tubes for optimal performance and its not a true merge collector, just a stamped collector.

Anyway, I was determined to have an equal length system of the proper tuned length so I went out and bought a TIG welder, belt sander, band saw, etc. I also purchased exhaust tuning software to assist me in determining the ideal diameters and lengths. What you have seen in the thread is the result of my efforts. I never planned on making more than one of these, it was just a project that I did for myself as a hobby, then I did Loginfailed's with some trade as he wasn't happy with his exhaust. I spent an immense amount of time trying to figure out how I was going to fit the correct length y-pipe in the available space while still having access to the transmission drain and level check bolts and still have ground clearance. What you have seen is the culmination of those efforts.

In order for me to make more of these, I have to remove my y-pipe and custom fit each mandrel bend, mark it, take it to the welder and tack it, then take it back to the truck to check fitment. Then I have to figure out the exact bend or length of tubing for the next section, cut it, sand the edge perfectly flat, fit and mark it on the truck, and tack it. This cycle repeats for every cut and bend in the system so it is a very timely process. I am not a professional at this, I just do it out of my garage and just the materials are more expensive than most people realize. $40 just for 4 O2 bungs, Vibrant merge collector is now $95, over $40 for 2 flanges, $35 for a 3" vband, etc. This is not even taking into account the cost of mandrel bends or welding materials. The list goes on.....

With this in mind, if you want me to make you one of these, the cost will be $1000 plus shipping. I will need a $500 deposit from each person prior to building these for two reasons. One, to help me buy materials, and two to ensure your vested interest so I don't get stuck trying to sell a rare one off part that is only marketable to a small audience.

UPDATE: Many people have inquired about building a portion of exhaust to mate with their existing catback. This will allow you to simply install the y-pipe, install the additional section, mark existing exhaust, cut it and install an exhaust butt clamp between the added section and your existing catback.
(THIS IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR TACOMA'S DUE TO EXHAUST HANGAR LOCATION)
This allows you to install it at your house and if desired have it welded at a future date.
I have done a few of these and from 22 Nov 2018 (not applicable to those who have already ordered) the pricing is as follows:
    1. V-band, flex, 6" extension tube $100
    2. V-band, flex, TICON 2.5" or 3" 300 cell metal spun cat, 6" extension tube. $250
    3. V-band, flex, TICON 2.5" or 3" 300 cell metal spun cat, Vibrant 2.5" or 3" Ultraquiet resonator, 6" extension tube. $400

You can buy the butt clamp or I can provide one for $15

Some people also like the look of all 45° bends instead of the standard 90° bends. This will be an additional $100 if you want this option.
It does nothing for performance but looks awesome!

    Some things to consider:

    1. This will mate up to the URD Spec-U headers as that is what I have. It will mount up to the factory manifolds or any other header you have as long as the flange is in the same position as the stock manifolds.
    2. You have to use a different header to y-pipe flange gasket (will be included) since I could only find flat flanges unlike the factory recessed flanges.
    3. The rear cats will be removed so it will not be street legal. Off road use only (disclaimer).
    4. It will not mount up directly to any stock or aftermarket rear exhaust. My y-pipe is a different length and will come with a 2.5" or 3" v-band flange welded on the y-pipe per your request. I will provide the other side of the v-band flange and clamp for you to fit or have fitted to your existing exhaust.
    5. I recommend a heat barrier for the transmission pan. Many have run the URD y-pipe for years with no issues but I prefer blocking any radiant heat. This is what I use

Please let me know either way if you are going to commit to this and I will provide my Paypal.

If you have any other questions on anything I may not have covered let me know."

This is a Roostfactor tuned equal length custom Y-pipe. Model JFR TE1 Serial #3. This is the bad of the bad, trickiest of all my parts on my truck, right there with my supercharger. I just love it! Pictures do not do it justice, you have to see it in person to see the complete beauty of it. Here is another picture of it installed on my truck to the stock manifolds which will be switched out to URD equal length headers in the near future. If you look closely you can see the quality of the materials and workmanship. He even used completely insane finned bungs for the sensors. Everything is first class, from the v bands, merge collector, flanges, you name it, all the details and then some are there.

You might remember seeing pics of the prototype of this pipe back in late May in the supercharger tricks and tips thread (Post 4734). Some of us expressed interest in this in which Roosty reached out to us and here is the finished product:

High efficiency merge, cone, v band, and flex pipe.
    Killer finned bungs!
    Great clearance.[IMG]
Crazy pic, but you can see almost the whole pipe.

I’m lucky enough to live two hours away from Roostfactor, so when I got there we (I say we,lol) installed his Y-pipe and a 3” URD mark3 catback exhaust with a high flow cat right behind the flex pipe. My truck has the trd flash, 2.85 pulley, afe stage 2 intake, 70mm throttle body, and Walbro 255 pump. When the Y-pipe and mark 3 exhaust was installed the truck pulled considerably harder throughout the range. Boost went down from 8psi to 7, afr’s went from around 10.7 to 11.2 or 3, I amazingly gained two mpg, and there is no rasp. Flow is definitely up and I’m not pressing down on the pedal as much when cruising. Even at very slow speeds it seems effortless. My truck had only the intake mods, so these new exhaust mods obviously were needed to compliment the whole package. The three inch exhaust definitely opened up the exhaust end but where Y-pipe shines is how smooth, clean, and pure the engine feels and sounds. My afrs seem more stable and not so erratic. I think all of this is due to Roostfactor tuning the length just right where the exhaust is not fighting itself. It just works. I will stop right there because Roosty is way more knowledgeable about all this and can explain things very precisely and vividly. I thoroughly enjoyed my day with him and his family. Roostfactor is first class and it shows in all the details and care that goes into all of his projects. We as a community are lucky to have him helping and providing us all of his knowledge and skills. I just know his Y-pipe is a work of art and cannot be had unless it is hand made like this. I saw first hand how he makes them and the level of care and precision in each step is epic. Thank you Roostfactor!!

    From yesterday.

I appreciate everyone's patience greatly! It will take a bit of time to create my own thread but for now I have been cleaning out my garage (got a storage unit) to have more room to work. Moved a bunch of stuff to storage and cleaned the garage to prepare for some serious torch action!
Notice truck ready for another y-pipe removal.[IMG]

Had to make a box to separate the J Bung orders. Also transition cones, premade merges, and other parts.
More Mandel bends, straight tube, etc.
The new setup with larger welding table and welding cart.
I really do appreciate everyone's patience and it's time to start melting some stainless!
The plan is make @Stryker420's then build a template from that. I went to Houston last weekend to check fitment on a 2wd 4Runner to confirm fitment so I only have to make one jig. @Lucario Runner is the first 4Runner to have this and he got #7 y-pipe built.

I plan on creating my own thread so I can edit as needed but huge thanks to @5thGearPinned for starting this one. I told him to just post what he thought and he started this thread (he is admittantly forum challenged).

    Stay tuned....
