Yes. Same upper and lower control arms, same suspension geo, same frame, same steel, same nuts and bolts.
The locker on the OR is the only bonus for a higher trim IMO, and even then, it’s debatable. Factory shocks get swapped no matter what so...there’s really no difference. All 3rd gens are off road ready as far as build strength and suspension. The 2wd if I recall has the exact same stuffs.

If you have 2wd, look into Maxtrax spindles, there’s even a thread on here. 2wd front spindles.

And if also recall, there’s an off road 2wd config.

Imo I would not take a 2wd off road safety and possible damages to the truck . But each is own .

If they aren’t the same then why can I go to a junk yard and buy a front diff, transmission, etc and make my truck a 4x4 in my driveway?

Of course, to each his own. But i would say to consider what kind of off road you’re talking about. SCORE class 7s are 2wd. Those move double fast off road. I have a 2wd 01 that smokes in the dirt, but I wouldn’t take it just anywhere. Off roading isn’t 4x4 exclusive.

Also 4x4 has a lot more to damage off road

if u add all that stuff its not the same truck .design is the same but its the components that make it a off road vehicle . So would that in mind would u take your stock Tacoma on a Baja run ?

I understand your point . my point is that each truck has its specific uses . I rather have better components to use off road that can take a beating .Rather than taking a baseline Tacoma that was never designed for that .

But all the frames, suspension, leaf springs, etc are all the same. You literally just unbolt and bolt on the parts that make two more tires spin. 4 wheels doesn’t make it an off road vehicle.

All those things have zero to do with what is and isn’t “off roadable” it’s not that the parts are interchangeable. It’s that my SR and whatever you have are indistinguishable...the struts, as I mentioned- doesn’t matter if it’s hitachi or bilstein, factory is worth about a few hard trips and they’re swapped. Factory skid plates are meh. So yeah... what I said.

4 wheel drive doesn't make it a off road vehicle ?? so any 4 cylinder 2wd Tacoma is off road ???

But... it WAS designed for that.
In fact, 08FDA899-BCD1-4A95-B615-C49264717C58.jpg all Toyota pickups are essentially off road utility vehicles. They kinda have been from the beginning.

If you mean to tell me your factory bilsteins are what set us apart and make the difference as far as breaking something, Or being more durable, or “purpose-built”, then I’ve got bad news for you.

When they contain the same basic components minus the 4wd..... yes.

Not sure if you're in the valley but Apache trail and 4 peaks are 2 wheel friendly and have some great views. Enjoy exploring!

OP, take your 2wd off road if you want. You’re already aware you don’t have 4wd. Invest in a winch and or locker. Anything that can break your 2wd will break a 4wd.

Personally, if I lived back in the desert, that would be a great setup.
