Brake pedal creep

    A leaking booster will not cause the pedal to go to the floor. All the booster does is decrease the amount of force you need to apply to the pedal to produce the desired hydraulic pressure in the brake lines. The only way that your pedal can go to the floor is if the brake fluid is escaping somewhere. Since you stated that the brake fluid level is not dropping the only place that the fluid could be going is past the seals in the Master Cylinder and back into the reservoir.

    Do not operate this truck until this is fixed.

    Well, the second dealer the truck went to also reported "they all do it" but on my insistence arranged for a regional service tech to assess the problem, however the regional tech wouldn't be in the area for two weeks.

    Last Thurs., rate of pedal travel increased, transiting from worrisome to borderline undependable so the truck went to a third dealership. Service advisor there stated the same "they all do it" but ran the truck into the shop for evaluation. Tech there actually ran a pressure test, contacted Toyota Corporate & ordered both booster & master cylinder. Loaned a beater Corolla for a week. Truck was returned a week later. The following day (Thurs), regional tech called to arrange for a now unnecessary evaluation.

    Mountain Minstrel is correct. The master cylinder is operated by an actuator rod passing through the booster and to the MC, continued pedal travel points to a problem with the MC.

    Two dealership Service Managers denied there was reason for concern, they both as well as three service advisers stated "they all do it". Finally found an experienced tech who recognized that loss of pressure in a closed system containing a non-compressible fluid was a sure indication of defect.

    Essentially five weeks & five denials of any reason for concern, quite a disappointing experience as to what to expect from Toyota dealerships.

    A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    Send them a letter documenting your visits, and copy your attorney. (whether you do or not is immaterial)

    Also consider contacting your local TV or paper 'investigative reporters'. They love this stuff. We had a local dealer scamming Sr citizens on sales and it took them 2-3 years to overcome their loss of business after a series popped on them.

    Unfortunately it seems that not many Service Managers or writers came up through the wrenching ranks as was common in the past. Meaning they really shouldn't try to evaluate what's wrong with a vehicle.

    I’m glad you got it fixed. It’s hard to understand how “trained” mechanics couldn’t have emediatly diagnosed the problem. I guess the only teach them how to read a computer printout theses days.

    While signing for the Corolla, the fat, bearded thirtyish Svc. Advisor intruded into the process still insisting the soft pedal was typical, even though he hadn't been within 50' of the Taco. Barnum-Bailey Circus closed down, a bunch more clowns available for employment.

    While this was going on, the tech was on the phone to Corp. gaining authorization to order parts for the repair. May have been as many as ten people involved (including four at Toyota Customer Svc.), glad at least one knew what he was doing.
