Hey guys, about how much does a rear locker install cost? Everybody on this site says they’re necessary so just curious. Also, any shop or installer referrals In the Phoenix area?

Lockers are not necessary, but better to have and not need rather than not have and need it.
Best bet for a referral is to ask in the local threads.

It all depends on what kind of off roading you are planning on doing.
I had a lock-rite drop in locker in my old pathfinder, it made a huge difference, was cheap and easy to install....I don't see them for the tacos.

Maybe there's another brand that is similar but it all depends on what you want to do.

There are a lot of things you can take peoples word for. A locker isn’t one of them. If you really need a locker, you will have know it when you needed it. I’ve owned 4 vehicles with lockers and rarely have I ever truly needed them.

If you need one you’re not even asking the right questions yet.

is it the same rear that's in the 3rd gens?

What made a huge difference in my pathy was manual hubs & the lock right, you were able to use 2wd Low range with the locker and make it though a lot of stuff.
It's not necessary but on the pathy it was a cheap and easy upgrade with a giant payoff.
If my only option was an arb or eaton I would not have bothered, too much $$$$
