True but you cannot fake the funk. All the silver in the back and along the pulley rib walls will show. A smog tech will know what's up immediately.

EDIT (FORGOT TO ASK) - Can anyone comment on how the "belt math" works when downsizing to a 2.7" or 2.8" pulley, in conjunction with Roost's Belt Wrap Mod? Hoping it's a "wash"...?

I also ordered mine with the RIP mod from Smoothflow.

 

Did that pulley on the rousch work too? Or did we have to swap it?

 

The recommended setting is subjective based on whether or not you are running Roostfactor's belt wrap mod, it is also dependent on belt size you are running based upon the pulley you're running as well.

Too many variables to make a recommended setting. Especially since I am running a different tensioner now than everyone else.

There is no math necessarily. For every half inch size you step down a pulley it is highly advisable you step down belt sizes an inch in order to absorb the slack in the belt the pulley has now created. It is done for sake of alleviating additional slack for the tensioner to pick up and attempting to maintain proper belt tension to negate belt slippage from the supercharger pulley. For sizes in between, it is best to attempt to find belt sizes in between the inch subtraction of overall belt effective length.

Example: stock size is 70.5" effective length belt 3.0 pulley, switching to a 2.5 pulley would require a 69.5" effective length belt. A 2.7 or 2.8 would best be suited running a 70.0" effective length belt. Again the name of the game here is maintaining or improving some of the tightness the original OE pulley and belt combination had.

I like to run sizing based on the overall mm effective length measurements, not so much the part number. It is easier to find the right size length belts that way. If modification is required, (looking at you Gates FleetRunner series) then so be it.

It must be swapped. The Tacoma supercharger tensioner/ idler pulley combination is unique to our setup and the Mustang's run a 76mm or 3" OD pulley. A 2.0-2.1" or 54mm pulley is required for our setup.

 

2.7 or 2.8 and stock belt with the roost mod is great. No headaches

 

That's not always true. Some members have reported slippage even with a shorter belt. Best bet is to run the appropriately sized belt required for the combination and throwing in Roost's belt wrap mod for maximum efficiency.

There are obviously other mods that can be done to decrease and negate slippage but at sizes like 2.8 pulleys I would not recommend the need for anything more then what I mentioned up top. Unless someone wants to be an overacheiver and run the FleetRunner belt as well.

 

Interesting. I've run both pulleys with a stock belt and had better results with the belt wrap mod. Do belts stretch? Mine was pretty haggard.

 

Yes belts stretch over time. Standard black belts no matter the brand do. Gates Fleetrunner resists stretching really well and the RPM series does not stretch at all.

Remember, not every setup is created equally. Just because something worked well for you does not mean it will for everyone. I don't know why, but slippage definitely exists with a pulley even like a 2.8. The safest bet is to run the proper length sized belt required for the setup then running the pulley wrap mod like I previously mentioned.

 

I agree. If you had to choose would you go rousch or steeda? I bought the steeda but I'm 2nd guessing my choice.
