You need to decide what you really want in the truck.

To me the 2nd gen feels old and outdated from top to bottom. The 3rd gen feels modern and has more tech.

2nd gen feels more rugged and trucklike. 3rd gen more refined and comfortable.

You’re buying out of warranty so the 2nd gen will probably be cheaper and easier to fix and has a very time tested drivetrain. The 2nd gen will also depreciate a little faster than the 3rd given there is a newer model out and the general public(not Tacoma fanboys) usually associate newer with better.

That's a pretty accurate description. I have a 2010 TRD OR 4wd that I gave to my daughter this year, as she just started driving. Then I went and picked up a 2018 Pro.

The 2nd gen definitely feels more rugged/truck like. The 3rd gen feels like going from a truck into a luxury vehicle. I almost feel bad about getting it dirty...almost.

Yup. All the 2nd gen guys coming on the 3rd gen section to reiterate that confirms it.

I love my lifted Camry ,Comfortable and smooth, but I miss the rugged feeling of my 09 TRD OR.
If I have to choose 1, I pick my 3rd gen, 1st and most is newer, on the long run will hold more value, besides the locker and the rear 110 outlet (I miss that) there is not much more difference between these trucks.
3rd gen more HP and the fuel consumption is very noticeable.
