These PVD wheels are starting to be a PITA, lol! All other wheels I ever owned could be cleaned with standard wheel and tire cleaner. I always used McGuires in the purple spray bottle. The past few months since I had these wheels, (lol, Yah, you can make fun, they were a new toy so I went overboard) everytime I washed the truck, I took wheels and tires off and cleaned with soap and water.

Today, in a hurry, Saints game starting in 2hrs... I tried using McGuires for PVD wheels. Wheels looked great! Tires looked horrible! Like Not cleaned at all, maybe worse than before. Went back to the store, bought few other PVD cleaners... Same story....

My quick cleaning plan turned into, me DVR'n the game. Had to manually scrub the tires.

Anyone know of a PVD/Powder Coat safe wheel/tire all in one spray on cleaner that actually works?????

    Thanks in advance.

That MaGuires wheel cleaner is not a good cleaner to be using on aftermarket wheel finishes. Trash that horrible product.

When I clean my wheels I spray with an Iron X product.
I use CG Diablos wheel gel and hot water with wheel brushes.
    Then rinse well.
When I’m done with the wheels I have a more abraisive brush I clean up the tires with and obviously take care not to scrub over the wheel.

If you do not clay your wheels regularly you will want to use an Iron X product every few washes or brake dust will corrode the finish. No two ways about it.

If you want something to help protect the wheel finish and make them easier to keep clean have the wheels ceramic coated.

But I’m serious about throwing that wheel cleaner away. It is a horrible cleaner that can damage your wheels.

If you want something to dress up the rubber. Chemical Guys has a trim gel I use on my black plastics and tires. Great stuff, lasts months if you handwash your vehicles.

DO NOT use any spray tire shine products. The vast majority are not aftermarket finish safe and many can fling onto your paint leading to staining that only buffing can remove.

Also stay away from polish cleaners. That stuff is not powdercoat safe. Polishers remove finish thats how they “clean”. Do not use that stuff regularly.

For deep cleaning the wheels & tires, use Purple Power degreaser. Then coat the tires with Chemical Guys VRP.

Purple Power is dirt cheap and available at any Wal-Mart.

VRP is pretty expensive, and I believe I bought it on Amazon.

Then coat the edges with some Tire Shine available at Auto Zone for like $5 bucks.

No no no the abraisive brush is for the tires.

I have wool wheel brushes (not scrub brushes) for the wheels. And yes you can use them and must use them. Brake dust can’t be removed by just spraying the wheels down with water and product. They need to be agitated off.

Thats why a ceramic coating might be best for you. A quality product will be permanent and help maintain your finish scratch free.
