Hey guys, I ripped the left cover off on my tech package equipped truck.

    4E127213-539D-45EC-94EB-8E6F041E46C2.jpg

I’m thinking about just getting a steel rear bumper, but what do I do with the BSM and sonar? Will disconnecting the sensors and leaving the harness intact (but sealed up) throw an error message on the dash?

It’s looking like 400-600 dollars in parts to get it back to stock. It’d be a no brainer to spend a little more for a HC rear bumper if I didn’t have tech but removing oem features from the truck has me on the fence.

    Any insight is greatly appreciated.

You can just turn it off.

Save all your current stuff in case you want to
go back stock in the future

I kind of did the same thing.
The left side of my bumper was all scratched up. I decided on a steel replacement bumper from Victory 4x4. It has provisions for the back up sensors, but no BSM.
I just left the BSM unhooked, no error codes at all.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers

I've said this many times. Whoever the idiot was at Toyota for placing these sensors in the bumper should be fired.

I would also turn it off and keep the stock parts, just in case. You shouldn't get any error messages.

You might want one of these if your gonna do that again. image.jpg
It's a @Mobtown Offroad and they have 20% off bumpers right now.
BAMF also has 25% off. Kinda comes down to shipping cost.

I just turned the switches off and no problem, now I have two blank switches to use for something else.

I do have two bsm sensors for sale if anyone is interested.

Disconnect the BSM sensors and leave it off in the truck. You shouldn't get any error messages.

I ripped two of my parking sensors when I tried to take them out of the OEM bumper to put them in the steel bumper. I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MUVKVMY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you want to keep your parking assist (which most steel bumpers support), I suggest buying these cheap sensors over OEM.

Lol. I was trying to drive up the incline and was very focused on not punching in the front bumper again. Heard a loud crackling and figured it was the mudflap. Boy was I wrong.

Looks like you have to cut the bed to get those on....definitely like that look and better clearance.

hope you set the parking brake when you got out, better safe than sorry! :)

Sorry about that, a high clearance bumper will be sweet on it. Also consider bobbing the tailpipe too. By the way, was it bent at all?

Daryl from Victory 4x4 here, thanks for the order! Make sure you waterproof those open connectors on the harness after removing those BSM sensors. We need to update the install docs to include that info.

If anyone else is looking to order a rear bumper, we are offering 15% off or $19.95 powder coat upgrades for Black Friday https://www.victory4x4.com/
