Unlike you, I like to make sure of things before making a decision. Plus, it’s none of your damn business at what questions I ask or when I ask them. Are you a mod? That’s what I thought.

You call me anal retentive. Ever hear the expression “there’s no such thing as a dumb question”? Apparently not. It’s a shame you have so much hate you need to bully noobs or those with less taco knowledge.

Maybe its jealousy that I got a better lift setup than you?

And with all this knowledge, you should know that each truck is different and responds differently to lifts. My stuff was installed by 2 professional working mechanics and I’m confident in the install.

Anything else? Sad that you’re in Spain right now, at night and arguing with someone on the internet. I certainly wouldn’t be doing that if I was there. I loved Barcelona. And Madrid.

You sound young, indeed. I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing if I was in Spain. Fuck yeah, arguing on the internet. Fuck Spain.

Cruise doesnt see a hill coming up, you do so you anticipate the increased load then squeeze the gas pedal to compensate. Truck begins to learn this then holds gear longer.

CC cant see the need for the increased load so it uses shifting to compensate to maintain set speed, it has no idea how high or long the hill might be

i always thought CC would do the equivalent of mashing the gas pedal. since its a DBW system, i figured the ECU handles that. then if not enough response quick enough then it would downshift. true?

But with the 5th and 6th gear ratios so close together, it will bounce between gears to try and maintain speed and also bump up fuel economy. Since it doesnt know the duration of increased load or hill it might jump between trying to get to 6th for fuel economy or just maintain speed in 5th or even 4th.

My 1st gen is also DBW but only has 1 OD gear. It's not as shifty with CC as the 3rd gen but it can get confused depending on slope / terrain.

I didnt use cruise the first year just because of the gear changes in D, now it's almost always used with S5. Works like a champ and the revs are only 300rpm more

Yep, if not quick enough it will downshift, and with the gears being so close together, it will downshift alot.

So take away the upshift option with S5 if it becomes annoying.

interesting. must be something specific to this truck and when it thinks it needs to change gears... Id bet the TSB makes this smooth out.

seems to be a tested fact that CC does save gas. that is, unless your ECU makes you shift like crazy for no reason.

    https://www.edmunds.com/fuel-economy/we-test-the-tips.html

    Test #3 Use Cruise Control

Result: Surprisingly effective way to save gas

Cold Hard Facts: Up to 14-percent savings, average savings of 7 percent

Recommendation: If you've got it, use it.

    Test #3 Use Cruise Control

Using cruise control is a bit of gas-saving advice frequently on tips lists. We have always agreed with this tip in theory but we hadn't expected such significant results. First, it smoothes out the driver's accelerator input by preventing nervous "surging." Second, it makes the driver take the long view of the road rather than reacting to every change in the traffic around them.

Method: We did this test twice with four different cars each time driving the 55-mile loop. The first time we set cruise control to 70 mph. The second time, with the cruise control off, we varied our speed between 65 mph and 75 mph. We tried to mimic the driving style of a person who is in moderate freeway traffic.

One thing that's important to note: if you are in a mountainous area you should turn off cruise. It will try to keep you up to the speed you've set and will use a lot of extra gas downshifting to lower gears to accomplish this.

You can always try it for yourself and see. For me in almost 3 yrs of ownership of this truck, CC does not help me with fuel econmy but I also average 21 mpgs per tank with a +1 tire size increase and keep the highway speeds below 70 mph with use of D and S4 and 5 at regular intervals.
