Interested too...had the same issue today. Got it all off but getting it seated back on is just as much of a pain.

Socket that fits over the shaft but catches the sleeve of the NSS

Or get a washer that fits tight to the shaft and then put a socket on then gently tap

Clean up shaft with sand paper before install

Lots of antisize on the shaft

Not much room in there for a hammer, and hammer with $260.00 electrical parts makes me nervous. I went with a socket and OEM issued bottle jack (braced off frame) and gently pressed it in jackseatNSS.jpg

Well I have been out of town on and off for weeks and just got it off today. Probably the most stubborn truck part I have ever dealt with.

I now have the same problem as others..getting the new NSS back on the shaft. I have it on there now, but it's at the very end of the spindle and difficult to get too as you know.

    Thanks for checking in!

Sounds like you need to sand the rust off the shaft. There is no way that should be a press fit to install.

I did sand the rust off (Pretty good I think). Are you sure it's not meant to fit tight?

I dunno. I've never even looked at my NSS. I just see no reason for it to be that tight.

I do have another problem I want opinions on. As a last resort I used a dremel to get the nut off. In doing so I cut the shaft pretty good. Maybe a quarter of the way in...but it still seems pretty solid. Will this affect anything? I sanded it off and cleaned it up after this picture.

Just get the bur off and press on gently with lots of lube like I posted above. Take your time, it will go on fine.

On my 05 with auto tranny, the shifting would ocasionally get stiff, mainly in winter.took the shifter apart and everything looked good. Disconnected the cable at the tranny and shifter moved easily. sprayed lots of lubricant on the shaft and things seemed better. Read about the NSS switch causing the problem so took another look. Found it on the other side of the tranny. Seems to be attached to the same shaft that the cable is attached to only on the other side of the tranny. I think when you move the gear shift , the shaft turns inside the NSS. If it gets corroded inside it will restrict movement, make the shifting stiff. I oiled it up well and things seem as they should be. I'm here in Canada and can get a new NSS for about $65 CAD.
