The only thing weak on my tundra is the tires with 595hp at the wheels...

I have a 3rd Gen Tacoma and previously owned a 5.7 tundra and the power in the tundra is far superior. However, I have not driven the small V8. I'd imagine it would dissapoint after driving the big brother.

I love the 5.7 its in my 2018 land cruiser , I have had 4 Tundras up until my 2016 Platinum crew max and got tired of the frame flex .
So went and drove the 2016 GMC 2500/ 3500 Single rear wheel truck . Lets just say the trundra is a great 1/2 ton truck , not to say weak but that frame flex just drove me crazy especially with a good load .
Toyota Tundra blows the 1/2 ton GM products away they have nothing but problems , The F-150 is a better truck in my opinion .
Toyota has not kept up pace .
I have had the 2016 GMC 3500 SRW denali diesel for the past going on 3 years , I looked at the gas and choose the LML diesel , not as fast as the 5.7 tundra but is very similar in many ways of the cab controls lay out .
I usually rototate trucks every 3yrs and I am not impressed with any trucks out there , I was hoping a new diesel trundra would appear , does not seem to be the case .
My 3 other vehicles are Toyota 4Runner , land cruiser and a 4 banger Taco are all great .
I would not say weak just fallen behind .

You want weak, go drive a G1 Tundra with a 3.4. The 4.6 will feel like a rocket ship after that

Secondary Air Injection Pump. You have to shut that down, bypass it. Easy to do email slyfox75@gmail.com for the kit

What's the intended purpose from Toyota for it and what's the mod do to improve the truck?

It's part of the emissions system. That brief 'whoosh' vacuum cleaner like sound you hear at startup? That's the SAIP. It's a well-known flaw on the 4.7l's. What eventually happens is the valves get stuck open, you get some codes and the truck goes into limp mode. Here's the thread that explains it all - TLDR version is contact slyfox75, he'll ship a bypass kit to you for $60. 15 minute install. Just do it and save yourself from future problems.

I had an '06 Double Cab Tundra. Selling that truck was the biggest mistake of my life. It was reliable, tough, and oh so beautiful. Yes, this model does not have the payload and towing capacity of it's competitors (f-150, 1500, etc.), but the utility of the 1st gen Tundra is unparalleled. They were big enough to tackle most construction projects but still maneuverable enough to drive just about trail. The 1st gens embodied everything that makes the Tacoma a great vehicle, but just in a bigger package. Everytime, I see a first gen Tundra I'm overwhelmed with jealousy. It feels like I'm catching glimpse of an ex-girlfreind as she's laughing and happily moved on with her life. Additionally the weight and long wheel base made that truck unstoppable in snow.

New to tundras. Is this specific to 4.7, or can it be helpful for the 5.7. Just got a 5.7 this week

No issues pulling a (34' travel trailer) weighing 8,000 plus #'s. The Tundra with (5.7 L) out pulls and handles better than my former 2013 f150 EcoBoost.

Wait for winter 2021, you can buy a Tundra with V6 Lexus 500 3.5L twin turbo 450-500 hp engine, with 5 link rear suspension with coils. 30 mpg highway.

I remember my father's 02 tundra with a 4.7. It was an sr5 2wd. I loved that truck and they were pretty quick, until the 5.7 came out. We were out at famoso one night racing and lined up next to a brand new(first year of them) 07 tundra with a 5.7. It was a crew max 2wd. He had a cab full of people. I managed to hole shot him and beat out to about 20 feet... and then he came flying by and ran a 14.7(if memory serves me) to my 16.03.
I was amazed lol, that thing was a beast and still is. My father also had an 05 chevy he swore would out run that tundra, it ran a 17.03 LOL it was quite sad.
Then he got his 14 tundra and I want to say ran a 15.2. It is a crew max 4x4 and HEAVY.
I just bought a 2020 tundra 2wd double cab. I wonder what it would run.

Tundradude34 just posted a video on youtube talking about how he feels the 2020 is more responsive than previous versions of the 5.7 Even though it's the same engine. He asks for any input on what others with older models thought when they compare to the 2020

He states in the video he wants feedback on what others have thought. Definitely would be good for you to go on and comment on what you've experienced. My 2020 is my first Tundra so I don't have a frame of reference, other than my Tacoma I had lol

I have watched a few of his videos and I wasn't a fan, but I will head over there and comment.
The only thing I noticed that really changed was the grill and gauges LOL

There were a bunch of people saying they felt the same thing. I guess I'll see what my father thinks when he drives mine.
It is a blast to drive either way--I can drive it easy or hard and the torque is awesome with the 6 speed.
