The bin is 13” deep. It can fit groceries. I don’t know how tall your wife is but reaching into the toolbox can get old if you are going in and out a lot.

40 miles east of San Francisco. That puts you around Brentwood/Antioch? I grew up in Orinda.

We also have the OEM bed divider, I’m hoping that the bed cover closes fine too.

I'v seen a lot of pics of the DB installed, and it seems like both front and rear access gates are not flat, but tilted up when closed and locked. Thats the only part of it I don't like.

    Access gate?
Are you speaking of the top access doors?
The SE model I own has 2 large doors
#1. To access the front half of the bed, which is where my large crossover storage bin is.
#2. To access the rear half of the bed. Which is easily removable for loading tall items.
When these doors are closed and or locked they both lay flat.
Not tilted. They’re only tilted when there open.

I find the large storage bin works great for storing recovery gear, first aid gear, water and stuff that doesn’t fit in under seat storage in cab.
Having a long bed allows plenty of room for the large storage bin and still lots of room in the bed for large gear. If I had a short bed truck, I’d probably have gotten the small bin. But it seem almost too shallow and narrow for my needs.
    God Bless

Do you have a different tonneau cover brand that you like better than the DB? I’m opened for suggestions on other brands. Again, I love the DB but the price is a true killer at the moment but it’s still an option to purchase once I save some $$$.

I understand DB is tops, however I’m opened to hear from others if there is another tonneau cover that it’s as durable as the DB. I’ve heard great things about Undercover brand as an example, how they carry other models including paintable options to match the truck with a lifetime as well.
    I always like having options:thumbsup:!

Tighten them down appropriately and let it settle in and it will be completely flat!

That part worried me too but it’s not the case. Those that have them tilted upwards simply kept them loose from the beginning to ease open/closing them.

Anyone get the newer black hinges that are suppossedly replacing the last round of black hinges due to powdercoating issues and flaking on the pieces? I spoke to Diamondback tech as I am looking to get the black smaller hinges to replace the older bright pin/receptacle type.

This person is supposedly going to call beginning of December when they should be available to ship.

That’s a function of sub-optimal installation. You need to apply quite a bit of weight during the install to compress the weather stripping. Then the cover will be flat. Easier said than done.

I don’t know who said that a DB isn’t rain proof, but whoever it was didn’t know what they’re talking about. Had mine since the day I bought the truck. Car washes, pressure washer, storms, Hurrican Florence, you name it. No water has gotten in to the bed through the cover. The only water I’ve had in the bed is if some leaks in where the bottom of the tail gate meets the bed.

I’ve thrown chairs up on mine to sit on to watch an outdoor concert, just to tie down old pallets and scrap wood the next day. Amazing cover. Worth the price.

I've been torn between the DiamondBack SE and the Undercover Ultra Flex. My dad has an Ultra Flex on his RAM 1500 and that thing is pretty sweet. They say you can put 400 lbs on top of it, but there's nowhere to secure that cargo, like on the DB. But the positive that I like is the hinged sections are self-latching, and the tonneau opens up completely, and stands vertical right behind the cab, so that you have 100% use of your bed.

I currently have a Gator Tri-Fold on on my OR, but sucks losing 1/3 of the already short bed to the cover. Taking the cover off completely is a huge PITA.

Was about to go the Undercover route, but am in talks with another owner on here, to get his DB tonneau cover instead... Good Luck.
